Our vision is a world where young adults lead with empathy. Narrative 4 Concordia is the Midwest branch of the nonprofit organization Narrative 4 working to achieve fearless hope through radical empathy. Our goal is to reach out to the Fargo/Moorhead community and beyond to foster empathy through the sharing of narratives. Our methodology is simple: we pair participants and ask them to tel
l a story from their life, whether it be sad, funny, or sentimental. Then, we have the partners tell each other’s stories in first person to a small group referred to as a “circle of trust.” This unique process causes each person to actually take a walk in the other’s shoes instead of just stepping into them. Such an encounter has been scientifically proven to increase the empathy pathways in the brain. We want to help the people in our community see the world through each other’s eyes.
