Think about the person you love... the person you’ve built a life with.

Can you imagine if your love story began entirely through letters? No first date. No seeing each other across a room. No knowing when you might finally meet. Just words traveling back and forth while the world was at war.

That’s what makes Ken Ludwig’s "Dear Jack, Dear Louise" feel so special.

During World War II, Jack Ludwig, an Army doctor stationed in Oregon, began writing to Louise Rabiner, an aspiring actress and dancer in New York City. They hadn’t met. They hoped they would someday. And somehow, through those letters, a relationship began to grow.

And these weren’t invented characters. They were Ken Ludwig’s parents.

I love knowing that this play comes from a real family story; that Ludwig took something so personal and turned it into a funny, warm, surprising story about two people finding each other across distance and uncertainty.

If you love true love stories, we really hope you’ll see this show.

Classical music fans, local music lovers, and anyone curious about where music and storytelling meet: we have something special coming to Theatre B!

On Tuesday, August 25, local musicians Jared and Amanda Hoeft bring STORIES IN SOUND to our stage for an evening of music for flute, piano, marimba, and alto recorder.

The idea behind the concert is wonderfully simple: music can tell us stories. It can paint an image, evoke a place, capture an emotion, or take us somewhere entirely unexpected. Jared and Amanda have put together a program that travels from wind moving across fields and through mountains to the high seas and medieval legend, drawing from classical, jazz, and more traditional musical influences along the way.

We’re especially excited to feature the work of local composer and performer Jared Hoeft, whose original music draws inspiration from nature and his own experiences, alongside Amanda Hoeft, a flutist passionate about making classical music accessible, interesting, and alive for audiences.

If you love classical music, contemporary composition, musical experimentation, or simply the experience of hearing talented local musicians make something beautiful together, we hope you’ll join us.

Ken Ludwig fans in Fargo-Moorhead—this one is for you!

On Friday. August 28, Theatre B will be delighted to welcome Lakes Area Theatre from Alexandria for a special performance of Ken Ludwig’s "Dear Jack, Dear Louise".

If you know Ludwig for his comedies, this play offers a chance to experience something especially personal from the playwright. Dear Jack, Dear Louise is inspired by the real-life courtship of Ludwig’s own parents, who began corresponding during World War II: Jack, an Army doctor stationed far from home, and Louise, an aspiring actress in New York City. Their letters become a funny, tender, and deeply human love story.

We’re also just really happy that Lakes Area Theatre reached out to Theatre B and chose our stage as their tour stop in the Fargo-Moorhead area. We love opportunities to welcome fellow theatre-makers into our space and to help bring their work to a new audience.

If you’re a Ken Ludwig fan, or simply love a beautifully told story about two people finding each other across the world, we hope you’ll join us.

ACTORS, DANCERS, SINGERS: we start this Saturday—and there’s still room for you.

Diving into intensive performance training is one of my favorite things to do, especially when it involves physical theatre, devising new work, and expanding what we think is possible for performers and performance.

I’ve had the opportunity to train with Anne Bogart and SITI Company, Barbra Berlovitz, Michael Rohd and Sojourn Theatre, Tannis Kowalchuk, and Theatre de la Jeune Lune. As a teaching artist, I’ve also worked with thousands of people with a wide range of experience, training, abilities, and goals.

But what I especially love is getting into a room with performers who are hungry to try new things—and try old things in new ways.

IS THIS YOU?

Theatre B’s Acting Intensive begins this Saturday with Unit 1: Viewpoints, Ensemble and Chorus, and we still have spots available. Unit 2 is already half full, so if you’ve been thinking about joining us, now is the time.

This kind of intensive actor training isn’t always easy to find locally, and I’m excited that Theatre B can offer this opportunity right here in our community.

Take one unit, two, or all three. PAY WHAT YOU CAN (or Reach Out)

👉 Visit the EDUCATION page at TheatreB.org for the full schedule, unit descriptions, pricing, and registration.

Come train with us.
