Carl Patrick — Dirt Track Fame has passed.

Carl Patrick stands out as one of the most accomplished engine builders and chassis tuners in the history of AMA Grand National racing. From 1974 to 2010, Patrick’s engines powered riders to an impressive 20 AMA Grand National Championship victories. After competing as an AMA expert in the late ’60s and early ’70s, Patrick moved to engine building and chassis tuning for successful riders such as AMA Hall of Famer Hank Scott and, later, Joe Kopp.

The American Motorcyclist Association offers its sincere condolences to the family and friends of AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Norm McDonald, who passed away on Sept. 25 at 93 years old.

McDonald’s impact on motorcycling was vast, as he enjoyed success as a racer, tuner and businessman within the industry.

This page is my attempt to recognize and acknowledge those card-carrying professional flat track racers who have died while competing in professional events over the years.🏁

The riders listed on this page range from National Champions to first-year Novices, and everyone in between. Some were in their prime; others at the decline of their careers; most were so young that we can only guess what might have been. Motorcycle racing is, without a doubt, a dangerous activity.
