Last night, our families had a fun time learning about lawn care and lawnmowers! 🌱⚙️

Jillian Patrie from the University of Minnesota Extension in Clay County taught our homebuyers about keeping their grass healthy, taking care of w**ds, fertilizing, and seeding.

James Van Vleet, one of our ReStore employees, shared his expertise on lawnmowers and w**d whackers. He gave our families tips on looking for quality products and general maintenance.

At the end, everyone got to try starting and using the lawnmower and w**d whacker! For some, this was the first time they have ever done this.

Education is not just about hearing the information, but also gaining hands on experience so that families can feel confident and ready to take care of their homes.🏠

The 11th Street Underpass will be opening soon, just two blocks from our offices and the Habitat FM ReStore, and we'll be joining with community members and the City of Moorhead, Minnesota to celebrate at the 11th Street Ribbon Cutting and Block Party on Wednesday, October 7.

Two weeks ago, we were joined by a fantastic landscaping crew from Hoffman and McNamara Co. They joined us all the way from Hastings, MN, to volunteer on our Women Build — on their break from planting 30,000 trees along the FM Area Diversion Project!

Global Village Day 6 & 7:

Our last day in the community was an emotional one. We had the honor of witnessing and being a part of a home dedication for a Habitat family. This was such a special opportunity for us. Seeing a finished home and meeting the family that will be living there was more impactful than words can describe.

Following the house tour and celebration, we continued on to meet a few families that have partnered with Habitat in the past. This allowed us to see the long lasting impact these projects have and how they’ve truly changed the lives of people in this community.

For lunch, every family that we worked with this week joined us so we could eat together as one. What a special, full circle moment this was for everyone involved.

With heavy but full hearts, we left the community we have quickly grown to love. We have learned and experienced so much with our time here. Words and pictures will never fully describe our time in Guatemala.

Thank you Hábitat para la Humanidad Guatemala for being the most wonderful hosts and welcoming us into your beautiful country. You’ll always have a special place in our hearts.❤️

Global Village Day 5:

Our last day on the buildsite 😭

We finished strong with our last 3 floors today. We have gained so much from this experience and feel beyond blessed that we were welcomed with open arms into this community.

After the workday we were challenged, by the Guatemala affiliate, to a rousing game of soccer. I think you can guess who won…🇬🇹

We can’t wait for what Friday holds. Stay tuned for what we are up to tomorrow!👀

Global Village Day 4:

Keeping our spirits as high as the humidity!☀️ We are really getting the hang of making concrete now.

What is the Goal?
To replace 100,000 dirt floors with concrete throughout Latin America and the Caribbean by 2028.
Habitat wants children to have a safe and healthy home that contributes to their cognitive development and where they can play, study, and grow up healthy.

The Dream?
Eradicate dirt floors in Latin America and the Caribbean by 2050.

Guatemala’s Impact:
From 2023 to 2028, Habitat for Humanity Guatemala will designate funds and mobilize resources and alliances to build almost 20,000 concrete floors.

Our 12 floors are a part of something much bigger than us and our week here. We may be small, but many hands make light work.

Our concrete slabs number is up to 9, only 3 more to go!🪏

Global Village Day 3:

Sun, concrete, sweat, and lots of laughs are what our work day consisted of today!

We are having the most wonderful time getting to know and work alongside Habitat families, community members, masons, and many other lovely locals.

We completed 3 more concrete slabs today, with 6 more to go!
