The work engaged in by PPP provides people in the community greater access to media and empower them to highlight the issues important to them. Also, it trains individuals to attract media attention, create and define media, and use media technology. These changes in infrastructure and knowledge base will have cumulative effects in the community and help shift systemic racism and economic injustic
e. By providing mentoring, tools and community organizing training focused on media justice, PPP creates direct access to independent media in our communities. This project shifts the status quo in media access of the “haves” versus the “have not’s”. PPP strives to change the media structures that have created unequal privilege by giving voice and visibility to community members and issues that have historically been marginalized or mischaracterized in the media. The PPP’s vision of social change is based on the power of media to affect policy; provide opportunities for Community Organizing; inform the public and engage them in democracy; and transform community discussions. PPP believes that its is a human right for members of a community to share equally in their ability to access media and be equally represented in it; that accessing media is crucial to movement building; and equal access to communication is necessary to achieve that change. The work of The PPP is vital to maintaining independent sources of locally produced media, news and information and we are currently the only media justice organization in the Fargo-Moorhead community. Your support to our work is also vitally important to maintain our free speech and communication rights. Your financial contribution to our work will help provide equipment for community use in creation of media, media skills trainings, and the preservation and expansion of media justice through education.
