Big news for Scouts BSA youth leaders.

The Scouts BSA SPL Summit is coming in September 2026. Building on the National Youth Council, the Summit brings Senior Patrol Leaders from across the country together to share feedback directly with the Scouts BSA National Committee.

What SPLs can expect:

• Quarterly online gatherings with SPLs nationwide
• Direct feedback sessions with national program leadership
• Early insight into upcoming program initiatives and resources
• A real chance to shape the future of Scouts BSA

The best ideas come from the youth who live the program every week. The SPL Summit puts their voices at the center.

📣 Important Membership Renewal Update

Scouting America has announced that the current membership lapse period will be phased out and will end on **December 31, 2026**.

🔹 What Is Changing?

The lapse period has allowed members a short grace period after their renewal date before their membership becomes inactive. As Scouting America moves toward a simpler and more consistent renewal system, this lapse period will gradually be reduced and then eliminated.

📅 Key Dates

✅ Members with an **October 2026** renewal date will be the last to receive the full **two-month lapse period**.

✅ Members with a **November 2026** renewal date will receive a **one-month lapse period**.

✅ Members with a **December 2026** renewal date will receive **no lapse period**.

Beginning in September 2026, new and renewing units will use the standard charter fee plus pro rata fees through February 2028.

📅 Beginning January 1, 2027, members must be current in their registration to maintain active status.

Unit leaders, committee members, and families should begin planning ahead to ensure memberships are renewed on time and there is no interruption in participation, advancement, or registration status.

More information will be shared as Scouting America continues implementing its simplified membership and renewal processes.

New research from Scouting America and The Harris Poll provides compelling evidence that the benefits of Scouting extend well beyond youth.

In a survey of more than 3,100 adults, Eagle Scouts reported significantly higher levels of enjoyment, gratitude, purpose, optimism, and overall life satisfaction compared to those who never participated in Scouting. They were also less likely to experience loneliness, sadness, and fear, even after accounting for factors such as age, education, and income.

The study also found that Eagle Scouts are more likely to engage in healthy habits, including spending time outdoors, maintaining routines, setting health goals, and following a balanced lifestyle.

Scouting is not just about earning badges or achieving ranks. It's about developing leadership, resilience, character, and a sense of purpose that can positively influence individuals throughout their lives.

Thursday night, Troop 42 gathered for one of our favorite traditions of the year—our Annual Family BBQ and Court of Honor!

With great food, great company, and plenty of laughter, we took time to celebrate the hard work and achievements of our Scouts over the past several months. Scouts were recognized for earning merit badges, rank advancements, position patches, Totin’ Chips, Firem’n Chits, the World Conservation Award, the Paul Bunyan Woodsman Award, National Outdoor Award Camping Rockers, and even the official patrol patch for our newly named Senior patrol, The Atomic Microwaves.

We were also excited to welcome several new adult leaders to the troop, presenting them with their patches and officially welcoming them to the Troop 42 family. Strong leaders and supportive families are what make Scouting possible, and we are grateful for each of them.

The evening was highlighted by a meaningful Scoutmaster Minute, reminding us that Scouting is about far more than patches and awards. It is about building character, serving others, and growing into capable, compassionate leaders.

A Court of Honor is more than a ceremony—it is a chance to pause and recognize growth, effort, and perseverance. Every badge represents time spent learning, practicing, and stepping outside of a comfort zone. We are incredibly proud of our Scouts and all they have accomplished.

Congratulations to everyone recognized last night. We can’t wait to see where the next adventure takes you!

Peep the Photo Drop Below and feel free to add yours in the comments and be sure to check out our scoutmaster minute in a separate post.
