West Virginia has passed a bill to change the school year from 180 days to 900 instructional hours. It becomes effective in the 2027-2028 school year,

Employees change from a 200 days to 1,600 hours minimum.

It works out to a similar total hours per year but would allow counties to do things like change to four-day school weeks with longer days.

We have TEN stations of fun crafts, games, and activities planned.

Each child will receive a drawstring bag to carry their goodies in.
As your children roll and read through the pages, they will have the opportunity to practice skills on the obstacle course, make a wand and broom, play in sensory bins, make a potion and more!

At the last station, get your own copy of Room on the Broom to take home.
(This event is FREE and open to the community)

Today is . Domestic violence is a leading cause of homelessness, and the majority of victims and survivors identify “access to money” as a barrier to leaving an abuser.

No survivor should ever be forced to stay with an abusive partner just to keep a roof over their head. But every day across the country, local programs and shelters are forced to turn away thousands of survivors in need, because they simply don't have the money, space, or resources to help them all.

Whether we realize it or not, impacted by these challenges. We all deserve to live in safe, well-resourced communities, and victims and their children deserve to know that help will always be available if they need it.

It’s almost that time again…

Planning is officially underway for the 2027 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count!

Across the West Virginia Balance of State CoC, communities will come together during a single 24-hour period to help create a snapshot of sheltered and unsheltered homelessness across our 44 county coverage area. Over the next few months, we will be sharing more information about the PIT Count, and how you can get involved in your community.

Volunteer registration isn’t open just yet, but don’t worry. We’ll let you know when it is. For now, save the date and stay tuned. PIT 2027 is coming!

We are now taking applications for Warm the Children until Friday, 10/30/26.
Applications can be completed at the Hardy County Family Support Center,
108 South Fork Rd, Suite 202, Moorefield, WV 26836.
Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm.

Eligibility Requirements:
Children from birth through 18 years of age (if in school or home schooled) are eligible for the Warm the Children program.

Documents Required to submit an application:
Photo ID for everyone in the household over 18 years old.
Social Security cards for everyone in the household.

An application cannot be submitted without these documents!
