🌾 Happy National Farmer’s Day! 🚜

Today, October 12, we celebrate the hardworking farmers, ranchers, agricultural workers, and farm families who help feed our communities and strengthen our local economy.

Here in Glades County, agriculture is more than an industry — it is part of our heritage, our identity, and our future. From the fields that surround our communities to the families who have worked this land for generations, agriculture continues to play a vital role in the success and sustainability of rural Florida.

As we look toward the future of economic development, we recognize that supporting agriculture means supporting local jobs, families, small businesses, and the traditions that make Glades County special.

Today and every day, we thank our farmers for all they do!

🌱 GETTING TO KNOW OUR GLADES COUNTY BUSINESSES: WEDGWORTH’S, INC.

This week, I had the opportunity to spend time with Jake, Kasey, and Jeff for a tour and conversation about their operation here in Moore Haven.

One statement Jake made during our visit really stood out to me:
“Moore Haven is the heart of Wedgworth’s.”

That is something I believe our community should know—and be proud of.
Many of us drive past the Wedgworth’s facility on U.S. 27 without realizing just how much is happening behind those gates.

🌾 DID YOU KNOW?

Wedgworth’s is a family-owned Florida company with more than 90 years of history, beginning in 1932. The company is headquartered in Belle Glade and operates manufacturing facilities in Moore Haven, Lake Placid, and Alabama.
The Moore Haven facility became part of Wedgworth’s in 2006 and is an important part of the company’s fertilizer manufacturing and blending operations.

Wedgworth’s brings together agriculture, science, manufacturing, technology, logistics and agronomy to provide products and services to growers and other customers throughout Florida and beyond.
Their products and services include:
🌱 Commercial fertilizers
🌱 Specialty nutrients
🌱 Crop protection products
🌱 Custom-blended fertilizers
🌱 Agronomic services

Their customers include agricultural operations as well as turf and ornamental businesses and vegetation-management.

The Moore Haven operation also has significant manufacturing capacity. Wedgworth’s reports that its manufacturing infrastructure has an annual capacity of approximately 350,000 tons, dry and liquid manufacturing capabilities.

🏭 WHY THIS MATTERS TO GLADES COUNTY

Wedgworth’s is an example of how agriculture and modern manufacturing come together right here in Moore Haven.
The operation requires more than agricultural knowledge. It also depends on skills in areas such as:
⚙️ Electrical
⚙️ Industrial maintenance
⚙️ Manufacturing
⚙️ Mechanical systems
⚙️ Technology and automation
⚙️ Equipment and machinery
⚙️ Logistics
⚙️ Agriculture and agronomy

That is why conversations about our local businesses and our future workforce are so important.

As agriculture and technology continue to evolve, we want to make sure the people of Glades County have opportunities to learn the skills needed for the jobs our local businesses will need in the future.

I am grateful to Jake and his team for taking the time to show me more of what happens at Wedgworth’s and for sharing their vision for the future.
Thank you, Wedgworth’s, for being an important part of the Glades County story.

On September 17th, the Glades County Economic Development Council, Inc. held its 2026 Annual Dinner & Business Meeting at the Doyle Conner Building in Moore Haven.
It was a wonderful evening bringing together local businesses, community leaders, partners, elected officials, educators, and friends who believe in the future of Glades County.
We were honored to welcome Representative Kaylee Tuck as our special guest and keynote speaker. Representative Tuck provided a legislative update, sharing information on current legislative priorities and issues important to our region and communities. We greatly appreciate her taking the time to join us and speak with our local business and community leaders.

GCEDC Chair Andrew Couse also shared the important role of our Economic Development Council and commitment to two key priorities:
🔹 Supporting our existing Glades County businesses as they grow, expand, and develop.
🔹 Attracting new businesses and investment that are a good fit for the opportunities and unique character of Glades County.

The Glades County EDC is proud to operate as a public-private partnership, supported by our business members as well as the City of Moore Haven and Glades County. Together, we are working to create opportunities while supporting the businesses and people who already call Glades County home.

We would also like to recognize and sincerely thank our 2026 Annual Dinner sponsors for helping make this evening possible:
⭐ Glades Electric Cooperative, Inc.
⭐ City of Moore Haven
⭐ First Bank
⭐ Lykes Bros., Inc.
⭐ Glades County School Board & Superintendent of Schools
⭐ Gilbert Chevrolet Family of Companies
⭐ Wedgworth's Inc.
⭐ Seminole Tribe of Florida, Inc. – Brighton
⭐ Dobbs New Eco., LLC
⭐ Florida Gulf Coast University
- Your investment in the EDC is an investment in the future of our community, and we are truly grateful for your support.

A special thank-you to our Board of Directors, our members, our community partners, Representative Tuck, our sponsors, and everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a success.

The EDC looks forward to continuing this work alongside our community—supporting what we have, building on our strengths, and creating opportunities for the future.

If you or your business is interested in joining the Glades County Economic Development Council as a new member, please reach out to Kimberly Clement at the EDC Office.
