On Sept 26, VFW Post 3336 held their 3rd Annual Family Picnic. Thank you to all the Post members and their families for braving the weather to come. It was a great time gathering to enjoy each other's company, as well as to celebrate the wonderful community projects accomplished during the year.
Three individuals were recognized for their countless hours of their time supporting Post 3336:
- Irma Carper-Miller was awarded an Honorary Membership for her involvement with the Cemetery Troopers diligently recording each stone repaired in a notebook and with photos, as well as being the shepherd of the Cemetery Troopers email list sharing the cemetery schedules and providing summaries of the repairs after each day.
- Brian C**n was recognized for his ambition and hard work as a new member helping the Cemetery Troopers, visiting veterans at Chestelm Rehabilitation, and helped keep comrades warm with supplies at the recent Freezin' for a Reason.
- Don Henson was recognized for his many years of outstanding service and dedication to Post 3336. Don was an integral part in the formation of the Cemetery Troopers and their mission to honor fallen veterans in the historic cemeteries in town. His traditional networking technique of 'knocking on doors' facilitated the acquisition of the tripod, trailer, and other equipment for the Troopers. He taught anyone wanting to help how to clean stones, which lead to annual Cemetery Preservation Workshops. He also spearheaded a number of fundraising events, such as the annual chili cook-off, the Wednesday night co****le games, a scavenger hunt, tag sale, and others. His dedication to give back to the community and continue to serve beyond the uniform helped elevate Post 3336 on both the State and national level.
