It’s been quiet over here, but we are popping on to find out how y’all are doing during these uncertain times. What’s been keeping you sane right now? What unexpected hobby/therapeutic activity have you picked up during all of this?

Part 6 in our series on things you may not know that we do:
We build connections. When you’ve been to a Syrian refugee settlement and connected with people there, something incredible happens- the next time you hear about what is going on in Syria, you care. You feel a kinship with the people you connected with and can become a voice and a helping hand in real ways. Our founder Caleb tells any of our travel groups, “If you go home and feel like you had an incredible experience and it ends there, than we didn’t do our job.” We encourage anyone traveling with us to make one or two connections to take home- a local initiative they can champion and help fund raise for, a cause they can go home and find out who is already caring about in their neighborhood, an intercultural perspective they can raise awareness for, etc. Our hope is that these connections you’ve made can turn into connections between your circle and others across the globe.

Part 5 in our series on things you may not know that we do:
We send out volunteer creative team to create media databases for local organizations. With this database of photos, videos, fresh graphic design, and more, the local organizations can use the material for raising awareness and funds. Currently these are our most requested teams as the organizations get the services free of charge and have the tools to show their supporters and the world what they do.

During times that we can feel overwhelmed with the bad in our world, these words from Desmond Tutu ring so true: “Do a little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” -Desmond Tutu

From our friend Kimberly: "The Table is an instigator towards collective paradigm shifts, stirring up necessary conversations in order to guide people to rethink things and enter into deeper healing."
Part 4 in our series on things you may not know that we do:
During this time where we seem more divided than ever, The Table hosts community dinners. We partner with local chefs to create a space where people can come together and get to know each other over dinner. We use these to fund raise for organizations or team members, and to get people talking through complex world and local issues. During our last dinner just this past week, the 53 attendees learned more about the Palestinian/Israeli situation, and the people affected. We have heard rave reviews from attendees, and it fills our hearts up to see hearts joined and minds opened over food and wine.

Part 3 in our series on things you may not know that we do:
We support local organizations as well. While a lot of what we do is global, we also have worked with and supported locally through media, fundraising help, and partnering. We also believe that every thing we do and learn abroad must be brought home as well. If we work with organizations that reunify children with families in Ethiopia, then do we care about those that are trying to reunite immigrants in our own land? If we want to see better education options in other parts of the world, do we care about education options for poorer communities here?

We’ll pick up on our series next week, but leave you with this thought as we enter the weekend. Take the word “neighbors” and also interchange it with anyone else you are encountering. We call this space “The Table Initiative” because sitting at the table is a great equalizer of humans. No person, no matter how vulnerable, should be a project. We all have something to teach each other.

Part 2 in our series on things you may not know that we do:
The Table Initiative facilitates intercultural education. We strongly believe that stripping off our preconceived notions is a must. Understanding that our culture or way of doing things is not the “right” way, opens us up to be humble partners and better global citizen. Whenever we travel, we create opportunities for our to get intercultural education. Then as the worldview shifts, we work on ways to bring this back home.
