The obsession to get rid of these is just plain weird!

"April is an ideal time to plant New Jersey native perennials, shrubs, and trees, allowing them to establish roots before summer. Top choices include Butterfly Milkweed, Purple Coneflower, and early bloomers like Virginia Bluebells, along with shrubs like Black Chokeberry, which support local pollinators and wildlife."

In this month of giving thanks we would like to share how grateful we are for the generosity of Conklin Farm. Their pumpkin, gourd and fall decor donation has helped us add some seasonal flavor to the Memorial Garden and Rain Garden that we maintain at the Montville Township Public Library.

Please support this local business when looking for your fall fun, food and decor needs next season!

(Currently closed for the season. Will reopen September 2026.)

Milkweed isn’t just a plant β€” it’s a lifeline.
As fall settles in and seeds ripen, this is your moment to give butterflies a future. 🌱

πŸ¦‹ Why sow milkweed now
β€’ Cold stratification happens naturally in winter
β€’ Spring rains awaken seeds right on time
β€’ Monarchs return looking for milkweed first

🌾 How to scatter seeds (early November)
β€’ Choose full-sun areas
β€’ Lightly rake soil or press seeds onto bare ground
β€’ Don’t bury β€” they need light to germinate
β€’ Leave leaf litter as a natural blanket

πŸ‚ Plant once, support life for years.

The sky may not be falling, but you still might get bonked on the head this year…by an acorn! Oak trees are the perfect example of mast reproduction. Instead of producing a steady crop of acorns every year, oak trees team up every 5 years or so to dump a massive amount of acorns all at once! It’s a mysterious trick of nature that helps oak trees outsmart hungry critters!

Take time this fall to study these amazing trees and their acorns with your little naturalists!
