Volunteer Day is here! 🙌

Join us Saturday, May 9 at 8AM as we head into the park to remove old barbed wire fencing and help with fire debris cleanup at the Amphitheater ahead of the Black Canyon Ascent Race.

This work helps protect wildlife and restore the landscape, and we’d love to have you there.

📍 Meet at the northeast corner of US-50 & Hwy 347 at 8AM
⏰ Wrap up around 11AM

Please come prepared with gloves, eye protection, sturdy footwear, water, and sun protection. Extra tools welcome!

We loved getting to connect with the community and watch kids spin the wheel for some fun prizes (like seed packets🌱☺️) at yesterday's Earth Action Day event! Happy Earth Day from Friends of the Black Canyon 🌎💚

Today is a reminder of just how special this place is, and why protecting it matters. From the dramatic canyon walls to the quiet beauty of the Gunnison River below, the Black Canyon has a way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone who experiences it.

Thanks to this incredible community, we’re able to support restoration efforts, protect wildlife habitat, and help ensure this landscape remains wild and resilient for generations to come.

Today’s Dark Sky park is Black Canyon of the Gunnison, located near Montrose, Colorado, and Curecanti National Recreation Area.
Black Canyon has several overlooks that, during the daytime, provide beautiful views of the craggy landscapes. At night, these same overlooks are great for stargazing.

The park also hosts special astronomy events, including an annual Astro Fest during which visitors can learn more about, and appreciate, the dazzling dark skies found here. Check with the park for additional details.

After the fire, these landscapes need more than time; they need care, intention, and community. Our volunteers have been out reseeding burned areas with native grasses, helping restore what was lost and giving this land the best chance to thrive again.

Native grasses play a critical role in preventing erosion, supporting wildlife, and keeping invasive species from taking over. This work matters, and it’s only possible because of you.

We couldn’t help bring this land back to life without the generosity of our donors. Thank you for being part of the healing of the Black Canyon. 💙

What an incredible night! ✨A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who helped make last night’s Art Auction such a special success.

A huge thank you to all the artists who generously donated their work! Your creativity and passion made this evening truly meaningful, and we are so grateful you shared your art with our community.

To everyone who joined us in person and to all of the amazing bidders who participated, thank you for showing up, supporting the mission, and making the energy in the room so memorable. And congratulations to those who took home beautiful new pieces!

A special thank you to for once again bringing such great energy to the evening! We always love having you as part of our events. And to for hosting us again, along with the incredible bartenders who kept everyone fueled and hydrated throughout the night.
