Who We Are:

4-H’ers across the nation are responding to challenges every day in their communities and their world. With a rich history and an expansive network reaching every corner of the country, 4-H is the nation’s largest youth development organization. More than 6 million 4-H youth in urban neighborhoods, suburban schoolyards and rural farming communities stand out among their peers: buildin

g revolutionary opportunities and implementing community-wide change at an early age. Proven Results:

The 4-H Study of Positive Youth Development, a longitudinal study conducted by the Institute for Applied Research in Youth Development at Tufts University, shows youth engaged with 4-H are:

Nearly two times more likely to get better grades in school;
Nearly two times more likely to plan to go to college;
41 percent less likely to engage in risky behaviors; and
25 percent more likely to positively contribute to their families and communities. Unparalleled Reach and Scope:

With 540,000 volunteers, 3,500 professionals, and more than 60 million alumni, the 4-H movement supports young people from elementary school through high school with programs designed to shape future leaders and innovators. Fueled by research-driven programming, 4-H'ers engage in hands-on learning activities in the areas of science, citizenship and healthy living. Leading by Example:

The caring support of adult volunteers and mentors inspires young people in 4-H to work collaboratively, take the lead on their own projects and set and achieve goals with confidence. 4-H’ers chart their own course, explore important issues and define their place in the world. 4-H’ers stand up for themselves and their communities. These pivotal experiences build a foundation of leadership and skills for success in their future careers. An equal access and equal opportunity University.

🐎 This special evening will feature renowned horseman Mark Rashid, neuroscientist and horse trainer Dr. Stephen Peters, and equine educator Crissi McDonald. Together, they will explore the fascinating intersection of neuroscience, horsemanship, learning, and communication through the lens of their newest book and decades of combined experience working with horses and people.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from the authors, engage in discussion, ask questions, and participate in a community conversation about what horses can teach us about leadership, connection, learning, and ourselves.

While we would love to welcome people to beautiful Norwood in person, we are also offering a livestream option, making this event accessible to audiences across Colorado and beyond.

🌿 The NW CO 4-H Expo has been a long-standing tradition since 1969 and was established as a learning experience for 4-H livestock project members. While the Expo includes showmanship and market classes, it is not a jackpot show. The purpose of Expo is to teach and provide hands-on learning opportunities that help youth develop the skills needed for a successful livestock project at their county fairβ€”truly Learning by Doing.

Continuing this tradition, 4-H members will spend the first day participating in workshops led by clinicians from the livestock, rabbit, and poultry industries. The second day is filled with excitement as youth apply the skills they learned by showing their animals. Members are also welcome to attend simply to observe and learn.

Since COVID, participation in the NW CO 4-H Expo has declined. In an effort to increase numbers and broaden opportunities, we have opened this event to all livestock 4-H members across Colorado. The registration deadline is next Wednesday, June 20, and each species will be capped at 20 participants to ensure adequate space and quality learning experiences.
