THE GOVERNOR’S CORNER: March/April 2016
Moose members, hang in there. It has been 20 months since our property on Arden Avenue was sold. It
has been a very rough time for the membership. Needless to say, without a Lodge building, we haven’t
been able to have many scheduled activities for our members. Some of our members have allowed their
Moose membership to expire. In a way, one cannot blame them for doing so. The Glendale Moose
Lodge has lost approximately 60% of its membership since the year 2014.
In late 2014, we moved from Arden Ave. to 2515 Cañada Blvd. in Glendale, where we established our
Moose office. From here we have protected our Moose charter by complying with Moose International
requirements.
We did have a few activities for the members: we held a “Cook Your Own Steak” night where we had
approximately 30 members in attendance; on three different Sundays we had a free pancake breakfast
where the Lodge paid tribute to our Glendale Firefighters from nine different Fire Stations. The Lodge
presented each Fire Station with a case of Tommy Moose™ dolls.
Some proposed events are:
MOVIE NIGHT: Children receive free popcorn & soft drink. Adults pay a nominal fee for popcorn &
drink.
BINGO: For members and qualified guests.
TACO NITE: Adult plate and child’s plate, prices TBD.
QUEEN OF HEARTS: Dinner available; live band.
KARAOKE NITE: Surprise dinner available; DJ.
DINNER DANCES: Live band.
FUNDRAISERS: TBD
SUMMER BAR-B-QUE: TBD
BALLROOM DANCE LESSONS: TBD
These are just examples of some events. We are open to suggestions. The Activities Committee will be
responsible for the scheduling.
The Lodge Officers whole-heartedly express their thanks to all of the Glendale Moose members who
have remained loyal to our fraternity. In spite of the lack of activities, you have remained active with your
membership and have remained loyal to the Moose mission. I assure you that you will not be
disappointed. You all deserve an active and fun Lodge. As you participate and volunteer yourself to help
your Lodge, you will also be having fun with your Moose friends. Bring your guests with you when you
attend Lodge activities. Your guests will likely ask you to sponsor them into the Moose fraternity,
especially when they learn what the Moose is all about—the kids, our seniors and our local
communities.
God Bless Mooseheart, Moosehaven and all of our loyal Moose family. We thank you and wait
anxiously to see you soon.
Richard Burrola, Governor
