During the month of November, students in grades 3-5 at Lathrop Street Elementary were able to participate in a fun project with Mrs. Alexander and Mrs. Rezykowski during their STEAM classes.

Students first learned about what entrepreneurship means by reading the book, What is Entrepeurship, and completing a lesson using Smart Futures. After that, students were tasked with creating their own businesses and engineering a product that could benefit them in their future business.

All of the projects were creative and watching construction was exciting! Some newly created products by MASD students were a Time Machine, a 30-second Oven, and a Pet Printer.

What better way to start a Thursday than with a Halloween parade and PBIS assembly! MEA members at Lathrop Street Elementary had some great fun with their students this morning!

Alvin and the Chipmunks showed up to the school bright and early to have an inflatable welcome to students! 🐿️

After an amazing Halloween parade, students and staff filled the gym for a PBIS assembly, presented by Mrs. Rezykowski and this month’s 6th grade PBIS student volunteers. The character trait focus at Lathrop Street for the month of November will be Responsiblity. During the assembly, the following MEA members were challenged to a game of Responsibility Musical Chairs: Mrs. Holbrook, Mrs. Brewer, Mrs. Capwell, Mrs. Kipar, and Mrs. Smith. Students helped the teachers identify if the choices that were written on their chairs were responsible or not. If they were not, the teacher was eliminated from the game!

Mrs. Kipar was crowned our winner! 👑

The MEA recognizes that the recently announced changes to the elementary specials schedule for the 2022-2023 school year have generated serious concerns and strong emotions among our parents and community members.

The MEA firmly believes that Art, Music, STEAM, Physical Education, and Computer Technology are critical subjects for students' academic development and social/emotional wellbeing.

The MEA encourages our concerned parents and community members to share their thoughts about these changes with our school board at the next regular meeting scheduled for Monday, June 13 at 7:00 PM.
