Montrose Area Adult School Class
Are you interested in making your very own homemade mead? Then check out this class.
401 Mead-Making 101 Instructor Dan Schreffler
Mead is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages ever made, as it was consumed as far back as 4,000 years. Interestingly, it was common across ancient cultures around the world including those in Asia, Europe, and Africa. Though like beer, wine, or cider, Mead occupies a beverage category on its own since its primary fermentable sugar is honey. Come join Dan Schreffler, the President/Winemaker of Space-Time Mead &, Cider Works in Dunmore PA as he presents how easy it is for you to get started producing your own mead. The class will run over two sessions, the first one covering fermentation and initial raking/stabilization, making a few three-gallon batches. The second session covers clarification bottling/ kegging. Yes, you will get some mead to take home after the second session! The class will be in the Montrose Library Community room. Small groups will get hands-on experience in each of the easy steps. A great class to attend with your spouse or friend! If you would like, you can purchase a mead-making kit, go right home, and be ready to start making your own. Once registered we will check to see if you would like to purchase the kit. The class limit is 20 students

DINNER & A LECTURE
OPEN TO THE PUBLIC & SCFLOA MEMBERS
The Susquehanna County Forest Landowners Association (SCFLOA) will be holding their annual dinner meeting on Thursday, January 23, 2025. This year's guest presenter will be Craig Benson with a program titled, “Local Susquehanna County Archaeology Hidden In Plain Sight”. Craig is a professional archaeologist who has worked at sites in the US and around the world. He will talk about using a “Collaborative Approach” to discovering and understanding the local prehistoric and historic archaeology of our area. “It’s much more than any of us thought. It’s different and more interesting than what the local history books tell us.”. It should be interesting and thought provoking and the goal would be to promote a discussion with the group.
The dinner and presentation is open to the public and all are welcome.
The event takes place on the Montrose Bible Conference campus at 218 Locust Street, Montrose PA. Doors open at 5pm for pre-dinner socializing with hors d’oeuvres available. A multi-course dinner (main course Ginger Peach Chicken) will be served at 6pm followed by a brief organization meeting. Immediately after the meeting Craig Benson will begin his presentation.
The meal and program fee is $20, with reservations required by Wednesday, January 15, 2025. RSVP to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).
