“I didn’t know people still helped their neighbors… what’s the catch?”
—Donald, 86 years old.

That hit me hard.

Because at Unite PHP Services…
there is no catch.

We’re out here doing the work—
helping people who feel forgotten.

Jobs are getting done. Equipment is rolling in.
All for one reason: to show up when it matters most.

I’m just one man. I can only reach so many…
but together—we can reach a lot more.

Because something this real
shouldn’t be rare.

If you feel that pull—don’t ignore it.
👉 Step in. Help out. Be part of it.

Just when I thought I was finally getting into my comfy clothes and warming up a plate of lunch…
BAM. The PHP signal went off in the sky like Batman.

One more senior needing help.

So I did what any good community hero does:
threw the Carhartt back on, pulled the mask up,😎 slapped on the shades like a Dollar-Store Ninja Turtle, and rolled out with the Polaris Snow-Plow of Justice.

Get there — boom — lady’s car battery is deader than last year’s New Year’s resolutions.
So out comes the charger…
red wire to red thing… black wire to the other black thing…
and we’re back in business.

Then I cleared her driveway, ramp, yard, neighbor’s yard, three counties, and possibly Lake Erie. Hard to tell — I get carried away with that plow.

All part of the job.
All part of the mission.
All part of Unite PHP Services – People Helping People.

Unite PHP Services – People Helping People

This morning wasn’t warm…
But the mission was.

While most folks were still clearing frost off their windows, we were already out clearing driveways, checking on neighbors, and making sure our community felt supported. Snow doesn’t stop service — it just makes the purpose a little clearer.

Because when you show up for people, especially on the cold days, it means something.

Unite PHP Services isn’t just a name on a building.
It’s neighbors helping neighbors.
It’s seeing a need and answering it.
It’s being present — even when the wind stings and your breath turns to ice.

Today was another reminder:
A warm heart can do a lot of good in a cold world.

If you’ve ever wondered how to get involved, the answer is simple:
Volunteer. Show up. Be there for your neighbors.
One small act can change a whole morning for someone.

Stay warm, stay kind, and keep serving.
People Helping People — that’s what we do.

I started this job on Monday, trying to figure out a way to thaw out an almost impossible situation. The moment I crawled underneath that home, I knew it was going to be a tight squeeze for a big fella like me—but I wanted to at least try. After worming my way around and getting eyes on everything, I came up with a plan. By then it was getting late, and I was numb from the cold, so I decided I’d talk with the homeowner and come back Tuesday.

When she opened the door, that’s when it hit me—it wasn’t much warmer inside than it was outside. All I saw was a single oil-filled heater in the kitchen and a furnace that didn’t look like it had run in a long time. And right then, I knew that even if I managed to thaw those pipes, they probably wouldn’t stay thawed with how cold the inside of that home was. Part of me wanted to say I wouldn’t be back Tuesday… but I couldn’t do that.

So I laid in bed Monday night thinking of anything—any possible way—I could create enough heat to make it work. I knew the chances were slim, but I also knew I had to at least show up and give it everything I had.

Tuesday was just as cold, maybe colder, but I crawled back under there and put even more into it than I did the first day. Deep down I knew I probably wasn’t going to get the results I wanted, but at the end of the day I’d be able to sleep knowing I tried my best.

As a little added bonus, on my way there Tuesday my truck tire got shanked. Luckily I made it to Hutch’s. Hats off to those guys—they couldn’t repair the tire, but they brought out a jack, swapped it with my spare, and got me back on the road. Three heroes just doing what they do.

Also my Preacher from Ignite Ministries escorted me to Hutch’s in his car just in case I ended up out of air on the side of the road.

Thanks Steve Beal

Stay warm & be there for others

I’ve received donations of quarters, and I’ve received donations as large as $1,200—and I am equally grateful for every single one. Whether it’s 75 cents or $1,200, each gift represents belief, trust, and hope.

I want everyone to know how deeply thankful I am for believing in this mission and in the journey I’ve started. I may be new, but my commitment is not. I will put my boots on the ground, do everything I can, and keep showing up—praying that others feel called to lace up their boots and walk alongside me.

Together, every small step and every act of kindness builds something bigger than any one of us.

Pictured here is myself with Mary Mercer, representing Women Of The Moose Chapter No. 270 of Montpelier.

A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful Ladies of the Moose 🫎 for their generous donation to Unite PHP Services and, even more, for believing in the mission. Your kindness was especially meaningful after a long day spent under a home, helping thaw frozen water pipes for a senior in Bryan.

Moments like this remind me why this work matters so much. Your support was truly a warming gesture—both literally and emotionally—and it means more than words can say. Thank you for standing with me and for helping People Helping People.
