Falling the burning tree so it can safely be extinguished on the ground.

Montpelier Fire department was paged out tonight to a power line in a tree that arced during the windstorm and started the tree on fire. These fires become a joint effort between firefighters and the power company. Hitting it with water when the power is still energized can get firefighters injured. Once the power company shuts down the power then we can safely fight the fire.

Firefighters with the Montpelier City Fire Department attended the South County Fire Conference which was hosted right here at home this year. These firefighters got to learn about fire behavior, reading smoke, being able to recognize a dangerous situation, and how to effectively extinguish a fire. These trainings are critical to keep our firefighters safe while actively saving lives in the process. Fire departments from all over southern Idaho attended this fire conference and we plan on hosting it again in the future.
