An update from Cameron, the assistant City Manager, about things going forward as the City/State slowly begins to open things up:

"As restrictions begin to be lessened by [the] governor people may be asking why the city is not more involved in services like filling pot holes. Many employees have been furloughed for the remainder of the fiscal year and remaining staff has to remain more focused on essential services. Furloughs were a result of budgetary restrictions (because of Covid) not quarantine. Even as restrictions are lifted the city staff will not be able to return at full force, limiting their work capacity.

The City wants to remind the community that City fields, courts (tennis and basketball), and other recreation facilities remain closed. We encourage residents to find other recreation activities that can be done while maintaining proper social distancing and safety precautions. Our parks, trails, and bike paths remain open to use."

Please help spread the word: Any Montpelier or Roxbury child who needs food during the school closure can get it, via the MRPS food service program. Meal pick-ups will begin Thursday 3/18. See the attached letter for details. Please share!

The second-annual Barre Street Pancake Breakfast is scheduled for Sunday, August 18 from 10 a.m. until noon, in the parking lot of Fothergill, Segale and Valley (143 Barre Street). Pancakes and coffee provided. Bring toppings and other beverages. Come meet and greet your neighbors!

The Barre Street Neighborhood is emerging from its winter hibernation! Come out this Saturday, May 4 for some greening up of Barre Street in connection with VT's state-wide Green Up Day. Meet outside the Recreation Center at 55 Barre St at 9 am. Disposable gloves and trash bags are provided by Montpelier Alive, but feel free to bring your own work gloves.

Please be aware that there is the potential for some flooding today; not necessarily along Barre Street, but I want to make sure you're aware of the alert system so you can keep abreast of the possibility.

The City notifies folks through the following service. The message I received by e-mail was slightly different from the one I got via voice mail so I would sign up by both e-mail and phone if you are able.
