The story of Joseph in Genesis chronicles his life in great detail. In short, Joseph didn’t exactly have a smooth ride in life.

We aren’t told how he felt each time he got knocked down or all the lessons he most likely learned along the way but what we do know is how Joseph responded in the end to his brothers who had started this whole cycle of events.

In the thick of it all, it didn’t stop him from living a faithful and upright life amidst corrupt and evil people. He continually trusted God to deliver him from his trials. Through all that Joseph endured, he kept God in the middle of it all.

As Jesus approached the mourning crowds at the tomb of Lazarus, the all-knowing God felt the sorrows of Mary, Martha and their family and He wept! But as he approached the tomb, he looked to heaven and gave thanks to God for the reality of the resurrection and answered prayer (John 11:38-44 ESV).

Without the reality of the resurrection, I could never have endured my husband’s death. And that is why we don’t grieve as those who have no hope. (I Thessalonians 4:13 NIV)

I have to admit, eagles have a special place in my heart. When eagles started returning to our area, my husband could spot them a mile away. He was always coming home and telling me of his latest eagle sighting. When he passed, the eagle became my cardinal! It seems they appear just when I need a bit of heaven. They also remind me of Isaiah 40:31 (pictured below) but I always wondered what it meant to soar on wings like eagles. I take a look at that in my story here: https://awidowsmight.org/womens-christian-devotional/vacuum-cleaners-and-eagles.html

Decision-making was and continues to be, extremely difficult for me; and a little confounding. While I consider myself an intelligent woman, sometimes even the simplest decisions, like choosing a paint color for the living room, have left me paralyzed in a fog and calling one of my daughters to help me.

A lot of the decisions I have made over the last six years were much more significant than selecting the right paint color. Each time I relied on four things to help me make the right decision.

My husband was an excellent painter and loved doing it. He wasn’t a professional but he could have been! So whenever there was a wall to paint he had no problem doing the job. He was also picky, so I just left him alone with his paint can, rollers and brushes.

Consequently, I had very little experience doing this in the past, which at least partially caused my anxiety as I stood before a small wall in my kitchen in need of fresh paint.

Furthermore, I did not like the fact that now this was my responsibility. It was another reminder that he was gone. The anxiety was paralyzing!

I was not alone that morning. The Lord was with me just as He was with the nation of Israel as they prepared to cross the Jordan River.

That morning, with a paintbrush in my hand, I “stepped into the Jordan” and I didn’t drown!!
