Jefferson County Emergency Management Director Kristy Anderson gave our club an overview of the many things her department does.
She encouraged everyone to have an emergency kit prepared as we come into hurricane season in a couple of months.
Anderson said the community could sign up for county alerts during times of emergency. You simply text your zip code to 888777.

The Monticello Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce Student Leadership Academy students, along with the Monticello Kiwanis Club built a wheelchair ramp for a local family through Florida Cares. The Monticello Kiwanis Club received a grant from the Florida Kiwanis Foundation, providing financial support for the project.

A Thanksgiving Gift Basket was presented to the homeowner. Organized by Kiwanis member Floyd Faglie, who believes that “the project teaches the value of service to others which is a core principle of leadership.”

Today our club had the privilege of celebrating Farm City Week and recognizing the Clarke family as the 2025 Farm Family of the year. Ernest of Fulford Family Farm and Jefferson county President of Jefferson County presented the annual award to the Clarke’s. Shelby Jordan, Farm Bureau Communications Coordinator was in attendance and gave interesting details about Farm City Week and Farm Bureau. Judge Plains was on hand to sign the proclamation designating November 19-26, 2025 as Farm City Week.

The Kiwanis Club of Monticello, FL celebrated its 100 year anniversary on May 20 at the Opera House. We had many guests and Buck Bird was the recipient of the Club’s Centurion Award. Please enjoy the included photos. Fun was had by all.

Amanda Fortunato and Patrick Fortunato with Boy Scout Pack 803 were our guest speakers today. They gave an update on re-establishing a club in Monticello and said the Suwannee River Area Council is celebrating their 100th Anniversary this year. Another surprise was Buck Byrd (a Kiwanis member) was presented the Centennial Centurion Award. In attendance was Morris Miller who had Buck as a cub master when he was coming through the Scouts.
