๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿพ 10 CATS. 4 HOURS OF DRIVING. TOMORROW. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿšจ

Tomorrow, we are loading up 10 community cats and making the 2-hour drive ONE WAY to a spay/neuter clinic.

Thatโ€™s 4 hours on the road, before you even count the time at the clinic.

And right now, we desperately need help with transportation costs.

We are already drowning in rescue expensesโ€”vet bills, food, litter, medications, supplies, you name it. We are doing everything we can, but we cannot keep funding everything out of our own pockets.

These 10 cats need to be fixed.
They need to get there.
And we need your help to make that happen.

When filling out paperwork so we can be an official 501(c)3 nonprofit, we were upset that "Scout's Honor" was a name already taken. We will ALWAYS be Scout's Honor, but our official name is Paws Beyond the Porch Inc.!

Gramps and I are hanging out in the catio. For anybody who is new here.....

We trapped Gramps back in May to TNR him. He was sickly, so he recieved an antibiotic shot from the vet. We also discovered he was a senior cat dealing with stomatitis. It wasn't safe to return him to his colonly because he can only eat pate wet food, and due to his teeth, he wouldn't be able to defend himself.

He was originally supposed to go to a senior rescue. Oops......I fell in love with him. ๐Ÿฅฐโค๏ธ

Today was a massive victory for me as a foster mom and a huge accomplishment for my Terror Night Kittens. We finally cross that stepping stone, dipping our toes into wet food.๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ–ค๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿฅณ.

You were part of this crew and it is truely hard not being able to see you in this picture anymore, along with other things in our routine. I hope that in your final moments you felt every ounce of love and care that I showered you with. Im am truely sorry that I couldnโ€™t do more for you. You have inspired me to keep pushing and advocating for Neonatal kittens because God knows there isnt enough people. ๐Ÿ’›

Why We Support Spay-Aborts โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

One of the hardest decisions in TNR is what to do when a female cat is already pregnant.

Some people hear the words โ€œspay-abortโ€ and immediately feel uncomfortable. We understand that. It can be an emotional subject.

But when you're working in animal rescue and seeing the reality of unwanted litters every single day, you have to look at the bigger picture.

A female cat can become pregnant when she is still incredibly young. She can have multiple litters in a year, and her kittens can begin reproducing themselves within months. Before long, one unspayed female can be responsible for dozens, even hundreds, of cats entering an already overwhelmed population.

When a pregnant female is brought in for TNR, she is already under anesthesia for the exact surgery that will prevent future pregnancies. A spay-abort means she can have that pregnancy ended while she is being spayed, and she will never have to go through another pregnancy, birth, or the physical demands of raising litter after litter.

And this isn't about saying those unborn kittens don't matter.

It's about recognizing that the mother standing in front of us matters, too.

She deserves a chance to live her life without constantly being pregnant, nursing, searching for food, and trying to keep kittens alive on the streets.

And the kittens that would have been born deserve consideration too. What happens to them in a community that already has more cats than homes, foster spaces, shelters, and resources?

We would rather prevent suffering than wait until kittens are born into a world where there may be nowhere safe for them to go.

A spay-abort isn't an easy decision.

It's a rescue decision.

It's population control.

It's preventing future suffering.

And sometimes, the most compassionate thing we can do is prevent another litter from ever having to face the dangers of life on the streets.

Please don't judge the people doing TNR for making an incredibly difficult decision. We're not doing this because we don't care.

We're doing it because we care about ALL of them โ€” including the mother. โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ
