The Tom Nard Memorial XII chess tournament was held on Saturday, February 21, at Evangel Church in Montgomery.

Kathryn Nard was on hand once again to share remembrances of Tom and his life and his passion for chess. Rhodes Peele also had some good chess history for us regarding Tom and the Montgomery Chess Club. The TNM is a good event and a good way to remember a friend.

26 players competed in the event. Thanks to all the players, and congratulations to the winners (players from Alabama unless marked otherwise):

CHAMPION = Scott Varagona
2nd place = Timothy Taylor
U2000 prize = John Laning (FL)

U1800 section

CHAMPION = Kevin Mora (FL)
2nd place = Hendy Nathaniel
U1500 prize = Brian Barfield

U1200 section

2nd place (tie) = Caleb Black (FL) and Jacob Hart (AZ)

Evangel Chess Club wraps up its 17th year tonight 5:00-7:00PM. This is our last meeting of 2025. We'll start up year 18 in January, and we have the Tom Nard Memorial XII tournament on February 21.

After that, we shut down for the holidays and come back in the New Year.

Sunday, January 4 will be the first meeting of 2026,
