My three opponents (the tournament winner and two others who tied 4th) were...

1/3 when playing me (33%), but...

6.5/9 otherwise (72%).

On Saturday, June 6, Evangel hosted the 2026 Alabama Quick & Blitz State Chess Championships. 23 players competed, including representation from Georgia & Florida. Thanks to all the players for supporting the event.

Congratulations to the winners (players from Alabama unless marked:

QUICK - OPEN:

1st place = Isaac Snow and William Wu (FL)
(Isaac is ALABAMA STATE CHAMPION)

U1800 prize = Sam Baskarraj, Timothy Taylor, and Arush Batchu

QUICK - U1600:

ALABAMA STATE U1600 CHAMPION = Benjamin Lindmark

2nd place = Houston Champlain

U1200 prize = Zeki Ozyilmaz (GA) and Bryton Camwell

BLITZ:

1st place = Damir Studen (GA), Isaac Snow, and Jonathan Rasberry
(Isaac and Jonathan are ALABAMA STATE CHAMPIONS, Isaac won the trophy on tiebreak)

U1600 = Ege Su Durak (GA)

All is well regarding the 2026 Quick & Blitz Championships tomorrow.

That said, we are rearranging a bit due to renovation of the Activity Center (our normal playing hall).

The new playing hall will be in the sanctuary building in the normal hospitality space.

The new hospitality space will be the children's ministries area (what we call "Kidtricity"). Kidtricity is connected to the sanctuary building by a breezeway.

If you pull into the big parking lot looking for the Activity Center, turn right and you'll see the breezeway.

I will try to use my Evangel Chess Club posters and my foam chess pieces to help.

Evangel Chess Club is back OPEN for the summer starting Sunday, May 31, at the normal time 5PM-7PM.

The 2026 Alabama Quick & Blitz Championships will be hosted by Evangel on Saturday, June 6. Still plenty of time to get signed up.

1) Reminder that we are still CLOSED on May 17 & 24. Meetings resume May 31 at the normal time 5PM-7PM at Evangel Church.
