The Alabama Humanities Alliance’s 2026 Alabama Colloquium, Considering America at 250, brings together perspectives on American history, literature, and law as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary.

Congratulations to the 2026 Alabama Humanities Fellows: attorney Bill Baxley, historian Kathryn Braund, and poet Ashley Jones!

Through conversations like these, the humanities encourage meaningful dialogue, deepen our understanding of history, and help us reflect on the stories that shape our communities and our nation.

Thank you to Alabama Arts Alliance Board Members Shelly Bailey and Cierra Cottman for attending and supporting our arts and humanities partners across the state!

ArtPlay Presents "UAB ArtPlay Halloween Family Day"

🎃 Boo! You’re invited to a not-so-spooky afternoon of creativity, imagination, and Halloween fun at ArtPlay. Join us for our FREE Halloween Family Day on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 1-4 PM—a joyful celebration designed for little ghosts, goblins, and their grown-ups.

Come dressed in your favorite costume and enjoy an afternoon filled with music, games, hands-on art activities, and good-natured Halloween fun. We’re keeping things sweet (and healthy!) with treats, no tricks, and plenty of opportunities to create, play, and explore together.

This year’s theme is inspired by the heartwarming story The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt, a gentle tale about embracing what makes us unique. Gather around for a cozy storytime, then bring the story to life through creative art activities that celebrate individuality, imagination, and the magic of being yourself.

Whether you’re twirling in a cape, fluttering in fairy wings, or wrapped up like a cozy quilt, Halloween Family Day at ArtPlay celebrates creativity, community, and the joy of being together.

Bring the whole family—and get ready for an afternoon of festive fun at ArtPlay!

Set in Newcastle during World War II, this moving play follows a working-class family as they navigate love, relationships, family, and everyday joys against the backdrop of wartime.

With period songs woven throughout the production, And a Nightingale Sang… offers audiences a heartfelt look at the lives and connections that continue even during times of uncertainty.

It’s National Arts & Humanities Month! The Alabama Arts Alliance is joining in the campaign.

This October, we’re celebrating the ways the arts and humanities connect us, bring us together, and strengthen our communities. Did you know? Nearly 1 in 3 attendees at nonprofit arts and culture events travel from outside the
county. And among those visitors, 77% say the arts event brought them to the community. The arts give us a reason to explore new places, experience something together, and support local communities along the way.

This year, we’re inviting everyone to :
Tell Congress why federal arts funding matters.
Visit ArtsVote.org to access resources to stand up for the arts this election season.
Host or join a National Arts & Humanities Month event.
