McKinney Restorative Center, Inc. is preparing to expand our reach and bring critical, survivor-centered services directly to the communities that need them most.

Through our growing mobile response model, MRC will provide advocacy, accompaniment, case management, referrals and connection to resources, education and prevention, and community-based support—meeting individuals and families where they are.

And we can’t do this work alone. 🤝🏾

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

This month, McKinney Restorative Center, Inc. (MRC) is joining communities across the nation in raising awareness, educating our community, and standing with survivors of domestic violence.

Throughout October, we’ll share information each week to help recognize the signs of abuse, understand the many forms domestic violence can take, support survivors, and connect individuals and families with resources.

Your support also helps us continue this work. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, donations to MRC help us provide advocacy, accompaniment, prevention education, referrals, and other critical support to survivors and our community.

Those of us who advocate, counsel, respond, support, and care for others often become so focused on helping that we forget to check in with ourselves. 💜

Compassion fatigue is real. It can happen when advocates, social workers, therapists, healthcare professionals, first responders, and other helping professionals are repeatedly exposed to the pain, trauma, and needs of others. Over time, constantly pouring into others can leave us emotionally and physically depleted.

Preventing compassion fatigue starts with recognizing that boundaries are part of the work not a failure to do the work. Turn off the work email. Set realistic response times. Take your lunch break. Use your leave. Ask for help. Debrief when you need to. And remind yourself that everything does not have to be handled right now simply because you are capable of handling it. We can be deeply committed to the people we serve without sacrificing ourselves in the process.

Protect your peace. Set boundaries. You matter, too.

MRC’s Executive Director is looking forward to facilitating Day 4 of the Advanced School Resource Officer Training this Thursday, August 6, at Alabama State University.

It's an honor to partner in preparing and equipping School Resource Officers with the knowledge and skills needed to better serve and protect our school communities. Looking forward to a great day of learning and meaningful discussion!

Coercive control makes leaving difficult- by design, not by accident.
It isolates, intimidates, financially restricts, monitors, manipulates, and chips away at a person's confidence until staying can feel safer-or more possible-than leaving. And even after separation, the control often continues through harassment, threats, legal abuse, stalking, or using children as leverage.
