Nominated by SMSgt James Eckert
SSgt Amy Romero has been pivotal to the 801st RED HORSE Training Squadron mission, developing 4,200 combat engineers annually and overseeing 26 course offerings, approximately 1,000 hours of instruction. Her subject matter expertise has been profound in instructing Rapid Damage Repair, Warehouse operations, Unit Control Center Operations, Army and Navy Portable Radio Communications functionality, and Material Control operations.
Romero has re-energized curriculum for three offerings: CRISIS; Skills, Knowledge and Silver Flag; and Rapid Damage Repair. She leveraged her experience to modernize 15 lesson plans, and upgrade five PowerPoint presentations.
Romero was awarded a coin by the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT)’s Dean of Operations for her role in overhauling a 30-year-old Officer Field Education Course, now formally known as CRISIS. Her brilliance led to a more realistic training environment for all students. In the new iteration of CRISIS, young officers are immersed in a unit control center during training days. There, they are tasked with setting up the center and running the different roles that they would typically be commanding. The change drastically improved officers' leadership capabilities during a contingency environment.
Romero is a standout and a model of excellence to everyone she encounters.
