Our next Champions of Progress team is Bumpus Middle School! We were so excited to welcome Hoover City Schools back into the Powerful Learning Network in 2025-2026. They brought incredible energy and engagement to the learning all year.

Bumpus Middle focused its learning on transitioning to Highly Effective PLCs by integrating McREL’s 6 Phases of Learning with data-driven decision-making. Their plan directly impacts student outcomes through the following methods: enhanced motivation and engagement, improved cognitive processing, and targeted academic support. See their full implementation plan here.

We want to congratulate Kerry, Patricia, Bailey, Leigh Ann, Kathryn, and Sierra for their amazing work! We appreciate your dedication to improving the lives of Alabama students!

Continuing our Champions of Progress series, this week we are highlighting the Shelby County Instructional Services team! This group has been a long-time partner of the ABPC, and we are so excited to feature their work!

This year, their team updated their instructional playbook to align with the six-phase model of learning from “The New Classroom Instruction That Works”. They added information about how our brains learn (6 Phases of Learning) and how teachers should plan based on this knowledge allowed them to join neuroscience with instruction. See their full instructional playbook here:https://aplusala.org/best-practices-center/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2026/05/Instructional-Playbook-2nd-Edition-1.pdf

Thank you to Kylee, Karla, Melinda, Allison, and Anna for your work in Shelby County Schools! You improve instruction district-wide, and the impact you have on students is incredible! Shelby County AL Schools
