ASPIRE is an after-school enrichment program + summer camp located on the campus of Alabama State University. ASPIRE serves students in grades 5-12.

ASPIRE is a program at Alabama State University that partners with Montgomery Public Schools and other local schools to encourage students to stay in school. During the school year, students come to ASU's campus twice a week to be tutored, mentored and motivated by ASU student mentors. Because Alabama State University offers a variety of majors, your children are assured to receive help in any subject with which they may be struggling in school. During the summer, ASPIRE's Head Start Camp students get help with organizational and study skills, peer pressure, self-esteem, goal setting and more. The ASPIRE program will give your child a chance to receive guidance from and develop friendships with mentors who understand issues that many youth face today. Students in grades 5-12 are eligible to apply.

We extend our deepest and most sincere condolences to our beloved Program Director, Mrs. Cynthia Handy, on the passing of her husband, Rev. Cromwell Handy who was an unwavering pillar of support and one of the program’s greatest champions.

Rev. Handy embodied the true spirit of Hornet and ASPIRE pride. His presence and love for this program were felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He stood not only as a supporter, but as a source of joy to our students, families, and staff.

We are truly saddened by this tremendous loss. During this difficult time, we ask that you join us in lifting Mrs. Handy, their daughters, and the entire Handy family in your prayers. May they find comfort in the outpouring of love, the strength of their faith, and the lasting legacy Rev. Handy leaves behind. 🐝
