Leadership Montgomery was honored to welcome Coach Tyrone Poole as the keynote speaker for our 2026 Unity Award Breakfast on September 30, 2026 and to present him with the Lantern Award in recognition of his inspiring commitment to leadership, service, and making a lasting difference in the lives of others.

From humble beginnings in LaGrange, Georgia, to an extraordinary 14-year career in the National Football League, Coach Poole’s journey is a testament to perseverance, faith, and the power of purpose. A first-round NFL draft pick, two-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots, and standout student-athlete at Fort Valley State University, Coach Poole has achieved remarkable success both on and off the field.

As an author, speaker, entrepreneur, inventor, and fitness advocate, Coach Poole channels his experience and influence into empowering others through the Tyrone Poole 38 Foundation, built on three foundational pillars: Education, Fitness, and Humanitarianism. From providing scholarships and supporting youth football camps to leading life-skills seminars for underserved youth and helping communities in need, his commitment to serving others reflects his belief that success is measured not only by what we achieve, but by what we give back.

Guided by his faith and the conviction that “All things are possible with God,” Coach Poole exemplifies what it means to lead with purpose, inspire through action, and use one's platform to create opportunities for others.

His message at our Unity Award Breakfast beautifully reflected Leadership Montgomery’s mission to develop and engage diverse leaders to effect positive community transformation. His life reminds us that each of us has the ability and the responsibility to use our gifts, experiences, and influence to make our communities stronger.

For more than 32 years, Gerald Jones has dedicated his career to supporting vulnerable children through Brantwood Children's Home, building partnerships across Alabama that create opportunities, mentorship, and hope for young people. His commitment to bringing people together for the good of others truly embodies the spirit of the Unity Award.

Legacy XLIII participants explored how diverse perspectives, experiences, and relationships can strengthen leadership and unite communities.

Through authentic conversations, shared experiences, and meaningful connections, they gained a deeper understanding of the factors that shape how people see the world. They also discovered how inclusive leadership, expanded networks, and a willingness to challenge assumptions can create stronger, more innovative, and more resilient communities.

The future of Montgomery depends on leaders who can connect across differences, inspire collaboration, and transform diversity into a source of strength.

Through collaboration, partnership, and hands on learning, participants are recognizing opportunities to strengthen outcomes for students and the broader community. They’re also building the professional presence, confidence, and communication skills needed to lead with purpose and create positive impact.
