Torchbearers XVIII had an impactful Healthcare Innovation Day on May 12, 2026 at the Baptist Health Institute for Patient Safety and Medical Simulation.
The day began with Lead by Design: Discover Your Style, an interactive session led by Tasha Carter, Walter Carter, and Krystal Floyd of Maximized Growth. Participants explored their DISC personality styles, gaining deeper insight into personal motivations, strengths, and opportunities for growth while building a stronger appreciation for diverse leadership and communication styles.
Following lunch, class members engaged in a Current State of Healthcare Panel Discussion featuring Peter Selman, Aisha I. Stanton, and Laura Strother of Baptist Health. The panel provided valuable perspective on the infrastructure of healthcare in Montgomery and across Alabama, addressing key questions and highlighting both challenges and opportunities within the system.
Next, participants experienced a Baptist Simulation Demonstration led by Barbara K. Ratliff of the Institute for Patient Safety and Medical Simulation. Through realistic, hands-on training tools, class members saw how simulation is used to strengthen clinical skills, improve communication in high-stress environments, and enhance patient safety.
The day concluded with a Current State of Healthcare – Mental Health discussion led by Donna Leslie and Erica Barnett of Carastar Health. The session focused on mental health services in Montgomery, including crisis care, system gaps, and community resources available to support individuals and families.
From DISC profiles to healthcare simulation and mental health services, Torchbearers XVIII gained a comprehensive look at the systems, people, and innovation shaping healthcare in our community.
