Mark your Calenders for the 58th Anniversary Commemoration of the Montgomery Bus Boycott on December 6, 2013 in Montgomery, Alabama.
This year marks 2013 marks civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks’ 100th birthday, and 58 years since her historic refusal to give up her seat to a white man aboard a city bus in Montgomery, Alabama in defiance of the state’s segregation laws. Her simple act of resistance led to a 13-month boycott of the Montgomery bus system that would spark the civil rights movement and inspire freedom struggles all over the world. In commemoration of her work, the Southern Youth Leadership Development Institute (SYLDI) will present two exciting events:
On December 6 at 11;30 a.m. at the Double Tree Hotel in Downtown Montgomery- Rosa Parks Luncheon featuring awards presented to dynamic individuals and youth
At 6:30 p.m.- Bus Boycott Interfaith Service at Old Ship AME Zion Church featuring the dynamic Rev. Otis Moss.
