Cancer Wellness Foundation of Central Alabama The Cancer Wellness Foundation is a public charity committed to providing quality programs and services to cancer patients and their families.

The Cancer Wellness Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to helping cancer patients. The Foundation is supported solely through the efforts and contributions of businesses, organizations and individuals. Every dollar contributed to the Foundation is used in the Montgomery and Central Alabama area. That means your donations are used to help your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.

What an incredible Women in Blue 2026 campaign 💙

Throughout the month of March, these amazing women came together with passion, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to support the Cancer Wellness Foundation of Central Alabama. What made this year so special wasn’t just the fundraising, it was the way they showed up for one another, encouraging and lifting each other up every step of the way.

Together, our 2026 Women in Blue class raised an astounding $134,151.77! A truly record-breaking achievement!

At our celebration, we had the honor of recognizing a few outstanding individuals whose efforts went above and beyond:

Meet Madgie Lashee

"I am excited to share that I have been selected as a representative for the 2026 Women in Blue campaign! This initiative, supporting the Cancer Wellness Foundation of Central Alabama, brings together women leaders to shine a light on colorectal cancer awareness and the importance of early detection.

While I haven't personally lost a family member to colon cancer, my family is no stranger to the physical and emotional toll cancer takes. I still carry the memory of losing my beloved grandmother to lung cancer, and I’ve watched with pride as my father-in-law and one of my closest friends fought their battles with incredible courage and resilience. Having seen the fear and exhaustion firsthand, I am more committed than ever to advocacy. These experiences have shaped my heart and strengthened my resolve to fight back.

Why your support matters:

The funds we raise provide critical services for patients across 32 counties in Central Alabama, including transportation to life-saving treatments; “The Wig Gig,” which offers free wigs to cancer patients experiencing hair loss due to treatment; advocacy for essential medications, helping patients access millions in assistance; and nutritional counseling and supplements to help patients maintain their strength.

Meet Dr. Brenda DeRamus-Coleman

"Colorectal cancer touched our family, but it did not define us.

Our lives were rocked in late summer of 2023 when my brother-in-law was diagnosed with late stage colon cancer. Warren Leon Davis, III was married to my sister, Dr. Tyna Davis, for 61 years. He was another big brother and we had a very strong bond and family relationship. He was a strong, intelligent, hardworking Christian gentleman. He faced his battle with dignity and fortitude. He was not only a patient, he was a deacon, a social activist, a family man, an educator, and a supporter of others. His life was rooted in service, and even in illness, his faith and character never wavered.

When cancer entered our lives, it did not belong to just one person. It became a family battle. Along with the medical professionals, Warren and Tyna, their son, daughter, and grandchildren, we were armed and ready for battle. We fought together, advocating, asking questions, seeking good quality care, and cherishing every moment of time we were given. Through it all, we lived with hope.

Our faith held us and kept us grounded when the path was frightening and uncertain. Prayer sustained us when words fell short. We trusted God, not because the outcome was clear, but because His presence was constant.

Colorectal cancer moves fast. This truth, though extremely painful, is important. Our loss was swift. No, the DeRamus and Davis families cannot change our outcome, but we can work to affect what happens for others. This campaign allows me to do something. It allows our family's journey to become a message of urgency, awareness, and love. If sharing our journey encourages one person to get screened, one family to ask questions, or one life to be spared unnecessary loss, then a valued legacy continues. We choose hope. We choose action. We choose to honor the life of Warren Leon Davis, III by helping others to live."

Meet Cindi Pittman

"There are few things scarier than hearing the ‘C word’ from your doctor. Whether it is you or a loved one, it is terrifying. My personal experience began several years ago when my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer. She recovered from surgery and was doing well until it reared its ugly head again two years ago. My wonderful, beautiful mother passed away a year ago this month, and I miss her every single day.

I have spent 26 years of my career working around cancer patients—first at the Montgomery Cancer Center and now at Central Alabama Radiation Oncology. I have seen the toll—physically, emotionally, and financially—that comes with fighting this awful disease. But I have also witnessed incredible strength from patients and their families.

I could not be more honored to be a Woman in Blue this year. The assistance the Cancer Wellness Foundation provides to patients in need is invaluable. The battle is hard enough without worrying about transportation to treatments or how to afford medication. I am proud to be part of this fundraiser in honor of my mother and the many patients I have been blessed to know. Thank you to Carol Gunter for thinking of me and to everyone who supports this extraordinary cause."

Meet Hobbie Dees

"Cancer does not discriminate. It does not care who you are, what you have done, or how deeply you are loved. It invades lives without warning and leaves behind heartbreak that never fully fades. Every one of us has been touched by this disease in some way. And every one of us has a reason to fight.

Through the Women in Blue Campaign, we have an opportunity to turn our pain into purpose.

Courtney Pruitt — the daughter of my lifelong friend — was a light in this world. An incredible young woman with her whole future ahead of her. In April 2018, she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Instead of celebrating the milestones of her senior year, she spent it fighting for her life in a children’s hospital. On May 9, 2019, Courtney lost her battle. The world lost a beautiful soul, and those of us who loved her have never been the same.

Conrad Naftel was truly one of a kind — generous, compassionate, and loved by so many. His cancer diagnosis was shocking and devastating. Cancer does not play fair.

There are so many names and faces that live in my heart. For each of them, I choose to fight. I choose to raise funds. I choose to stand up against a disease that has taken too much from too many.

We cannot bring them back. But we can honor them. We can refuse to let their stories end in silence. We can channel our grief into action and our love into impact.
