Happy Facebook Friday, yall! I had a little minor procedure, but wanted to log on and share some things with you that are vitally important to you and to your paycheck. We’re coming up on our mid term elections in November and to say that I’m concerned would be an understatement. I’m asking you… no… I’m begging you to take the time to get to know the candidates running for office: Who are they? What do they stand for? How much do they value our retired educators? Are you aware that one particular candidate for a widely contested race came out this week with his platform and PUBLICLY ENDORSED ALABAMA EDUCATION RETIREES!! How great is that, y’all!!!
Research; Google; follow them; if they value the voting public and the opinions of Alabamians, then they are having town hall meetings and getting out and meeting people and LISTENING to what they have to say. Be there! Ask questions! Check out their page and see what others are saying. GET INVOLVED! And VOTE YOUR PAYCHECK…. Before it gets taken away.

But remember this important fact: all legislators look at numbers. So make sure you’re a member of AERA because ONLY TOGETHER CAN WE ACCOMPLISH OUR GOALS.

It’s a great day, yall! It’s a great day to be a member of AERA. Don’t ride on our coattails. Join us and let’s work together to accomplish great and mighty things.

Today, AERA hosted its last Annual District Meeting for 2026! The District 3 Meeting was held at Five Points Baptist Church in Northport. Icie Wriley is the District 3 Director. It was also her birthday, so attendees sang Happy Birthday to her and wished her a joyous day.

The devotion was led by Genette Presswood from Sumter County. Vickie Brown from Bibb County led the pledge. Members heard from Ms. Wriley, Peggy Mobley, AERA President; Wendy Lang, AERA Executive Director; Erica Collins-Thomas, Assistant Director of PEEHIP; Angel Gaillard, Humana Representative; and Jeff Collins, AMBA Representative. Door prizes were also awarded.

The Annual District 6 Meeting was held today at Coastal Alabama Community College in Thomasville. The beach-themed meeting was directed by AERA District 6 Director Alvin Owens. Judy Compton from Marengo County gave the invocation and Joy Seybold from Choctaw County led the Pledge of Allegiance. AERA President Peggy Mobley brought greetings from the state office and updated members on TRS matters. AERA Executive Director Wendy Lang discussed happenings at the state office and issues on the state level that affected education retirees. PEEHIP Assistant Director Erica Collins-Thomas provided health insurance updates from PEEHIP and Humana. AMBA Representative Jeff Collins reviewed member benefits provided by the company for retired educators. The meeting concluded with giving away door prizes.
