Why Do We Celebrate Labor Day?
Labor Day is more than a day off from school. It is a day to recognize the contributions of workers and remember the history of people who worked together to improve working conditions and protect workers' rights.

A Look Back:
The first Labor Day celebration took place in New York City in 1882. In 1894, Congress made Labor Day a federal holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September.

Ask a child:
What workers help make your community a better place?

Have a meaningful Labor Day! 🇺🇸
Today, we honor the generations of workers who fought for fair treatment, safe working conditions, and the rights that have helped shape our communities and our nation.

May we take a moment to recognize the contributions of workers, past and present, and the importance of continuing to stand up for fairness, dignity, and opportunity for all.

This is a great visual to share with your Labor Day message.

🎨 Let’s keep the creativity going, Alabama!

The 2026–2027 National PTA Reflections season is underway, and we’re excited to see how Alabama students bring this year’s theme, “What My Culture Means to Me,” to life through the arts!

Students in Pre-K through Grade 12 are invited to explore their creativity, share their stories, and express what culture means to them.

✨ Interested in participating? Contact your school’s PTA/PTSA to learn more and find out your local submission deadline.

Please note: The January 12, 2027 deadline shown on the flyer is for Council and non-Council submissions to Alabama PTA. Local school submission deadlines will be earlier, so please check with your PTA/PTSA for your school’s deadline.

Let’s make this an amazing year of creativity, culture, and student voices across Alabama!

Our classrooms are more diverse than ever—and our PTAs should reflect that!

When families see themselves, their cultures and their languages reflected in PTA, they’re more likely to feel welcomed, valued and ready to get involved. Building a more inclusive PTA starts with making sure every family has a path to membership.

Language can sometimes feel like a barrier, but it doesn’t have to be. Many PTAs have volunteers who can help with written or verbal translation, making it easier to communicate with and welcome more families.

Did you know National PTA has a guide to help PTAs break through language barriers? It includes practical steps for finding and working with translators so you can make your PTA more accessible to everyone in your school community.

Because when we make room for every voice, we build a stronger PTA—and a stronger membership. 💙

Thank you Dolly❤️

Today, we’re remembering Dolly Parton—an extraordinary artist, but also a tireless champion for children, literacy and education.

Yes, Dolly gave us unforgettable music. But her impact reaches far beyond the stage. Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, she helped put more than 325 million books into the hands of children around the world, inspiring a love of reading and helping families build a foundation for learning.

Her music may be her legacy, but so are the millions of children who grew up with a book in their hands because of her.

Dolly’s belief in the power of children, books and education will continue to inspire generations to come.
