Congratulations to Dr. Abby G. Horton on presenting at ICN’s Network Conference in Nashville, TN today on Leadership Development through Nursing Organization Involvement. We are proud of her leadership and dedication to ASNA and of her hard work in supporting nursing organizations.

One of ASNA's efforts to get nurses more involved is through our Mentoring Program. Dr. Julie Savage Jones is the Mentoring Program Coordinator.

She has a passion for mentoring and understands the benefit of having great mentors. She attributes this to the fact that she has been blessed with excellent mentors throughout her 32-year career in nursing. Jones has a BSN from Auburn University, MSN from the University of Alabama’s MSN program in Nursing Case Management for Rural Populations, and an EdD from the University of Alabama’s Instructional Leadership for Nurse Educators program. Jones is a Nursing Instructor at Jefferson State Community College at the Clanton Campus and maintains practice as a part-time Staff RN at UAB Hospital in the Medical Surgical Staffing Pool.

Check out Dr. Julie Jones’ interview in our upcoming newsletter about her bravery and response to a medical emergency during a flight she took recently.

Dr. Jones noted, “Sometimes, the opportunity to make a difference comes when we least expect it. Recently, while traveling on a commercial flight, a fellow passenger experienced a medical emergency. When the flight crew asked if there was a medical professional onboard, I immediately recognized an opportunity to do what nurses are trained to do—step forward, assess the situation, remain calm, and provide care within my scope of practice”.

Thank you for your leadership, service, and commitment to providing high quality care and action for our patients, community, and organization. This is the power of nurses!
