As the new Department Commander for 26-27. I would like to thank all of our past Department commanders for keeping our department going. We will honor your legacy as we build our future. And trust me, the future is looking great with all the future leaders that are up and coming. Thank you team Alabama!

Last night, I had the privilege of attending the announcement of a new veterans cemetery that will soon begin construction in Huntsville, Alabama. It is an exciting step forward in honoring those who have served our nation and providing a final resting place worthy of their sacrifice.

As I reflected on that announcement, I was reminded of one of the greatest gifts a veteran can give their family: pre-registering for cemetery benefits.

None of us like to think about the day when our mission here is complete, but planning ahead is one of the most selfless acts we can do for our loved ones. When we earn our wings, our spouses, children, and families will already be carrying a heavy emotional burden. Having your eligibility and wishes documented in advance can remove uncertainty, reduce stress, and provide peace of mind during a difficult time.

As veterans, we have spent our lives taking care of others. Taking a few moments to pre-register is one more way to continue serving and protecting those we love.

If you have not already done so, I encourage you to look into your eligibility and make your wishes known. It may be one of the most meaningful gifts you ever leave behind.

Thank you to all the VFW members that showed up for the town hall about the new cemetery in north Alabama. We had the most members there with their caps on to support this event. Our Veteran Service Organization was well represented.

Today is a special day for VFW Commander-in-Chief Carol Whitmore as her membership mission of 101% has been achieved. The Southern Conference proudly led the way, becoming the first, and currently the only, VFW Conference to surpass the Commander-in-Chief's goal, reaching an outstanding 101.75% membership. This remarkable accomplishment reflects the dedication, leadership, and teamwork of our Posts, Districts, and Departments throughout the Conference. Adding to this achievement, six of the VFW's top ten Departments nationally are from the Southern Conference, demonstrating the strength and commitment of our members across the region.
