A morning well spent. 💙

Montgomery Capital Rotary members recently spent time serving alongside the team at Woodland Methodist Food Pantry in Pike Road, lending a few extra hands to support the work they do for neighbors in their community.

We enjoyed stepping away from the normal routine, working side by side, and simply being useful where help is needed.

We’re grateful to Woodland Food Pantry for welcoming our group and for the work they continue to do throughout the Pike Road community.

And to our Rotarians who showed up ready to pitch in, thank you. Good people, good work, and a pretty great way to spend a morning together.

Another great Thursday around the Rotary table!

A big thank you to Mary McLendon of Auburn University Athletics for spending her Thursday with Montgomery Capital Rotary and sharing her time and expertise with our members!

One of the things we value most about our weekly meetings is the opportunity to step outside our own industries and experiences and learn from people doing interesting, important work across our state. Mary brought a perspective from more than three decades in collegiate athletics, and we were grateful to have her at the table.

Great speakers may bring us together, but it’s the conversations, connections, and relationships built around the table that make Rotary something worth coming back to week after week.

🏀 What does it really take to keep a college athlete ready to compete?

There’s a lot more happening behind the scenes than what we see on game day.

On Thursday, August 20, Montgomery Capital Rotary welcomes Mary McLendon, Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Performance at Auburn University, for an inside look at the people, preparation, and expertise behind student-athlete health and performance.

With more than 30 years in collegiate athletics, Mary leads Auburn’s sports medicine, sports performance, and sports nutrition programs. A nationally respected leader in athletic health care, she also made history as the first woman to serve as president of the SEC Sports Medicine Committee.

She’ll share how health, nutrition, performance, and leadership come together to help student-athletes thrive.

And there’s a lesson here that resonates with Rotary: lasting success is rarely the work of one person. It happens when people with different skills and perspectives come together around a shared purpose.

🏈 When the pressure is on, do you let your environment change you, or do you change the environment around you?

This week, Montgomery Capital Rotary welcomed Kyle George, Director of Athletics at Troy University, for an energetic conversation about leadership, perseverance, and what it takes to be ready for the moment.

Kyle shared a lesson he often returns to from The Coffee Bean by Jon Gordon and Damon West: a carrot, an egg, and a coffee bean all face the same boiling water. The carrot becomes soft. The egg becomes hard. But the coffee bean does something different...It transforms the water around it.

Kyle reflected on an incredible year across Troy University Athletics, from success in football and men’s and women’s basketball to baseball’s historic postseason run. He also shared the excitement and economic impact surrounding Troy’s Super Regional and what can happen when a program dreams big, perseveres through adversity, and is ready when opportunity arrives.

His message kept coming back to a simple challenge: How do we keep getting better so that we’re ready for the moment?

Thank you, Kyle, for bringing your enthusiasm for Troy Athletics to Montgomery and sharing lessons on leadership, growth, and perseverance that extend far beyond the playing field.

We’ve set a goal of raising $1,000 for The CART Fund, and so far, Montgomery Capital Rotary has collected $418.60!!! That means we’re more than 40% of the way there, with $581.40 to go!

Before you head to Rotary today, check the car, dig through your purse, raid that change jar, or grab those coins sitting on the dresser. Every bit adds up to help fund innovative Alzheimer’s research.

Let’s fill that bucket and get closer to $1,000! 💙

And while you’re gathering that change, don’t forget we have a great program lined up today!

Rotary doesn’t just happen around the lunch table. 💙

Montgomery Capital Rotarians were out in the community this morning for the Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce 60 Minute Coffee, hosted by the Heart of Alabama Food Bank!

It was a great morning of making new connections, catching up with familiar faces, learning more about the good work happening across our community, and doing what Rotarians do best: showing up and plugging in to learn more and get involved.

For us, being a Rotarian isn’t just about Thursday lunch; it’s about staying connected, building relationships, and finding ways to make the community we share even stronger.

🏈 What does it take to build a winning culture and keep it moving forward?

This Thursday, August 13th, Montgomery Capital Rotary welcomes Kyle George, the newly appointed Director of Athletics at Troy University , for a conversation on leadership, teamwork, and building organizations that thrive.

Before stepping into his current role, Kyle led Troy Athletics' external operations, overseeing everything from marketing and fan engagement to sponsorships and strategic growth. Now, he's guiding one of the nation's rising athletic programs following a historic year that included a football bowl appearance, a Men's Basketball NCAA Tournament berth, and Troy Baseball's first-ever trip to the Men's College World Series.

Success like that doesn't happen by accident.

Join us as Kyle shares his perspective on leadership, navigating change, and building a culture that inspires people to achieve more- lessons that extend far beyond the playing field and align with Rotary's commitment to leadership and service.

When Rotarians show up, good things happen.

Next week, Montgomery Capital Rotary has the opportunity to serve alongside our friends at Woodland Methodist Food Pantry in Pike Road, and we'd love to have you there!

Every box packed, every bag carried, every smile shared helps ensure that families in our community have access to the food they need. It may only take a few hours of our time, but the impact lasts far beyond that day.

Service has always been at the heart of Rotary, and projects like this remind us why. Together, we can accomplish so much more than any one of us could alone.

Today, Montgomery Capital Rotary had the privilege of hearing from Tiffany Ervin, Executive Director of The CART Fund (Coins for Alzheimer's Research Trust).

Her message was a powerful reminder that meaningful impact often begins with simple acts of generosity.

Through the support of Rotarians, CART has awarded nearly $20 million in research grants to 75 institutions, including UAB, helping advance innovative Alzheimer's research. Last year alone, Rotarians contributed $4.5 million in spare change, with 100% of every dollar designated for research supporting Alzheimer's research.

One message stayed with us:

"Who we are is what we do with what we have."

It's a reminder that leadership isn't measured by the size of our contribution, but by our willingness to contribute.
