At this moment, the federal program Healthy Start is in jeopardy. It hasn't been defunded...yet, and Congress has the power to correct course.
Healthy Start funds important programs in our community like The Gift of Life Foundation, where I work. Without this funding, we stand to lose committed nurses, social workers and family coaches who are devoted to working toward reducing infant deaths due to SIDS and other causes. Without this funding, we risk local moms not getting the support, education, and connection to resources that point them to care early enough in pregnancy so that it really makes a difference. The funding also helps us reduce child abuse and neglect; helps our moms and dads develop strong parenting skills, along with providing mental health support and opportunities for economic self-sufficiency and to build a strong, safe family unit so baby and the entire family thrive.
Collective advocacy will be essential in the weeks ahead to defend the program’s legacy and future in Montgomery, Birmingham and around the country. Let's do this for ALL OUR babies👶. PLEASE take a few moments to click this link 👇and make your voice heard🎤. It takes about 5-7 minutes. Please do it today and let us know in the comments or inbox that you're all in!
