Tukabatchee Area Council

Tukabatchee Area Council (AL) The current council shoulder patch, adopted in 1989, depicts a fleur-de-lis inside a heart in the center of the state of Alabama.

The Tukabatchee Area Council serves and supports Scouting America and Career Explorer programs in Autauga, Bullock, Butler, Chilton, Coosa, Crenshaw, Dallas, Elmore, Lowndes, Macon, Montgomery, Perry, Tallapoosa and Wilcox counties. Based in Montgomery, other communities within the Council's service area include Prattville, Selma, Alexander City, Marion, Millbrook, Clanton, Greenville, Camden, Tus

kegee and Wetumpka. The fleur-de-lis represents the BSA while the heart is representative of Montgomery's claim as the "Heart of Dixie." The white stars in a blue arc with grey and red color scheme are reminiscent of the official flag of the City of Montgomery. The count of 14 stars represent the counties in the council's central Alabama service area. The council derived its name from the Creek Indians who inhabited much of Alabama and specifically south central Alabama prior to European settlement. Tukabatchee was a capital of the Creeks located at the convergence of the Coosa and Tallapoosa Rivers just east of what is now Montgomery. The tribe of Creeks occupying the area were known as the Alibamus. Alibamu is the name of the council's Order of the Arrow lodge.

๐Ÿ“ข A New, Simpler Renewal Cycle for All Members

Scouting America announced an important change at last weekโ€™s National Annual Meeting that will simplify the membership and unit renewal process nationwide.

๐Ÿ“… By February 2028, all members and all units will have a single, common renewal month of February.

This change is in response to feedback from unit leaders and other Scouters who asked for a simpler, more consistent renewal experience. We appreciate and value their input.

๐Ÿ”‘ Key updates include:

๐Ÿ”น Beginning September 2026, all units due for renewal will renew to February 2028.

๐Ÿ”น All memberships and unit charters will have a common renewal month of February by February 2028

โžก๏ธ To simplify the process and in response to unit leaders' requests, Scouting America is returning to unit control of member renewals. If the unit does not renew a member, that member may renew themselves after the unit-only period closes.

โš ๏ธ The current 60-day grace period will end December 31, 2026

๐Ÿ”น Members renewing in November 2026 will still receive a 30-day grace period through December

๐Ÿ”น Members renewing in December 2026 must renew by December 31 to avoid being dropped

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ To support the transition during 2026 and 2027:

๐Ÿ”น Beginning in September 2026, new and renewing units will use the standard charter fee plus pro rata fees through February 2028

๐Ÿ”น No changes for new and renewing members through 2026

๐Ÿ“Œ Unit leaders should watch for updates from their local council, as additional guidance and implementation details may vary by council during the transition period.

This is a significant operational change designed to reduce complexity and create a more streamlined experience for volunteers, families, and councils alike.
