They’re trying it again.

A handful of politicians want to get rid of a law that stops drunk driving before it happens. A law that saves more than 10,000 lives. They’re calling it a “government-controlled .” That’s categorically false.

The truth? This bipartisan law only stops people from driving when they’re illegally drunk or high. That’s it. It does not compromise individual freedoms nor collect personal data. No one has the right to drive drunk.

Congress has already rejected attempts to repeal the HALT Drunk Driving Law twice because both parties know drunk driving is dangerous and preventable. Every day, 32 people die because someone chose to drive drunk.

This isn’t a game. It’s not politics. It’s about keeping families safe.

MADD Alabama is on a mission to partner with leaders in the automotive industry who want to make a real difference in our communities.

We launched "Driving Change with MADD," a turnkey program designed specifically for car dealerships. It allows dealers to increase their brand visibility and social responsibility by letting every vehicle purchase have a life-saving purpose.

We need your help.

If you have a personal connection to a General Manager, Dealer Principal, or Marketing Director at a new car dealership in Alabama, Florida, or Georgia, we would love an introduction.

Why Dealerships are Partnering With Us:

Turnkey Impact: We provide all co-branded showroom materials (mirror hangtags, victim story cards, and banners).
Brand Visibility: Partners receive a 30-day social media engagement campaign and opportunities for local media features.
Community Leadership: It’s a powerful way to show customers that their local dealer is committed to ending impaired driving.

Our goal is to turn every showroom into a beacon of safety and responsibility. If you know someone who would be a great fit for this mission, please comment below or send us a DM.

Let’s work together to ensure that impaired driving ends here. 🛑

This April, during National Crime Victims' Rights Week, MADD wants to remind you that YOUR VOICE MATTERS. MADD Victims Services invites victims and survivors to courageously share their stories to help raise awareness and prevent impaired driving. By speaking out, you can inspire change, honor those impacted, and help protect others. During the week of April 19th -April 25th we will be featuring victim stories on our social media platforms to amplify the voices of those tragically impacted. Together, we can make a difference.

On February 9, 2026, Karen Spencer, Victim Services Specialist, had the privilege of connecting with Drug Recognition Experts (DREs) during their training session.

Being in the room with professionals so deeply committed to protecting their communities was a meaningful reminder of why this work matters. These officers stand on the front lines every day, making critical decisions that prevent tragedies before they occur.

Hearing Mrs. Aprile Powell speak added an especially powerful dimension to the training. Her message reinforced the human impact behind impaired driving — reminding everyone that every case represents a real person, a real family, and a real story.

DREs and law enforcement officers play a vital role in roadway safety. Their specialized training, commitment, and courage help remove impaired drivers from the road before lives are changed forever. Their work is not just enforcement — it is prevention. It is protection. It is saving lives.

MADD Alabama is grateful for the continued partnership with ALEA and for the opportunity to stand alongside those who work tirelessly to make Alabama’s roads safer every day.
