I’m having a hard time figuring out how to celebrate something I’m so grateful for.

I wrote a book. Something I’m incredibly proud of. And my publisher keeps telling me how well preorders are going.

But every time I hear that news, I feel a little sad, too.

People have been asking if I’m going to have a book launch party, do book signings, or go on a book tour.

The answer is no.

And I’ve been thinking a lot about why.

When I hear how many people are preordering this book, I can’t help but think about what that really means. Just how many people are out there caring for a loved one with dementia, trying to figure out what to do and how to get through it all.

I wish there wasn’t such a need for a book like this.

At the same time, I’m deeply grateful that it’s finding its way into the hands of people who might need it.

So yes, I’m happy. I’m proud. And I’m also carrying a little sadness alongside all of that.

There won’t be a big launch party or book tour. But I am thinking about each and every one of you.

Please consider becoming a volunteer for Flathead Respite Care. You can come as much or as little as works with your schedule--you choose your own volunteer days.
