If you're voting in Alabama's August 11, 2026 Special Primary Election, don't wait until the last minute to prepare.

✔️ Confirm your voter registration and address with your county Board of Registrars.

Our Executive Director, Anneshia Hardy, has long argued that our democracy can't be understood without understanding the history that shaped it. The challenges we're facing today didn't appear overnight. They are connected to unfinished struggles over power, belonging, and who gets to fully participate in our democracy.

But history also teaches us something else: every attempt to narrow freedom has been met by communities willing to organize, imagine, and build something better.

That's the tradition we come from. And that's the work we continue.

Throughout history, movements have endured not simply because people named what was wrong, but because they built what was needed. From Fannie Lou Hamer's Freedom Farm Cooperative to the Black Panther Party's Free Breakfast Program, liberation has always been rooted in tangible work, collective care, and community.

If our politics only teaches us to critique, but never equips us to create, cynicism becomes the outcome.

As Anneshia says in this conversation, the question isn't only What are you resisting? It's also What are you building?
