Hey everyone! Its been a little while since we provided an update.

The Montgomery Park board recently picked a contractor to for the new splash pad, and it was approved by council. They are hoping to break ground soon and are pushing (hard) to get a opening date at the end of May 2026 if at all possible. Phase 1 will include the main splash pad area and the city internally will be working on the bathrooms. Future expansion will include rehabilitation of the remaining part of the former pool house and surrounding area.

Keep an eye out for more progress. This project is going to be a great improvement to the area.

So what can you do to help? Encourage property owners in the area to continue to improve their properties. The city has worked to remove some delipadated houses but the 4th Ave /3rd Ave loop in that area will be the thoroughfare for the park and we want to make sure it looks the best possible!

Just a reminder. Please do not jump from the fishing pier or swim in this area. It is extremely dangerous and there may be unknow objects under the water near the shore that could injure you. We are working on a splash park location with federal funding, however for saftey we cannot have anyone swimming in this area.

An update: After much research it has been determined at this time the orginal plan of rehabilitation and utilization of the former Baisi Center building would ultimately not be feasible due to lack of larger partners in the project, and costs to do so solely by the city (over $2.1m in renovations immediately and $650,000 operating costs).

That being said we have received some funding for a recreation center project (that funding is currently froze due to the federal government budget issues) but once released the plan is to rehabilitate the former City Pool property in phases.

The plan is to have a splash park on part of the property, as well as renovate and expand the former pool house to include locker rooms, a fitness center, and and storage.

Why not another pool? Cost, pools are extremely expensive to run, and costs much more to run and maintain than they bring in. Additionally staffing life guards for seasonal operations had become extremely difficult the last few years the old pool was open. A splash park economically, is cheaper to maintain. Additionally with the planned fitness center the hope is offer memberships to help make this center as self sufficient as possible for day to day operations.

As with any federal projects this will take a few years to accomplish, however it is in process with people working hard to make it happen. Stay tuned for more info!
