Over the weekend, GirlTREK members and Peloton lovers came together for an amazing walk filled with movement and community. The energy was absolutely incredible from start to finish! Together, we walked, honored our history and created new memories along the way.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and to our partners at Peloton for helping make this experience so meaningful. We loved every step of it!

Tomorrow is Juneteenth 🖤

A day to honor freedom, remember the journey, and celebrate the resilience of Black people who kept moving forward—even when freedom was delayed.

As we prepare to celebrate, we want to hear from you:

This photo takes us back to 2015, when Michelle Obama challenged GirlTREK women across the country to get out and walk. Long before wellness became a trend, she understood what we have always known: saving our own lives is a revolutionary act.

She has been supporting this movement since day one.

Today, we stand with her.

The attacks on Michelle Obama are not really about Michelle Obama. They are part of a long tradition of policing, questioning and diminishing Black women whose power cannot be controlled. When Black women stand tall in their fullness, there will always be those who try to make them smaller.

We refuse.

GirlTREK was built on the belief that Black women do not need permission to save our own lives. Not permission to walk. Not permission to heal. Not permission to be strong, brilliant, joyful, healthy, or free. We belong to ourselves. As Nikki Giovanni reminded us, ( ), we cannot afford to be distracted by the opinions of people who have already shown us who they are. Our responsibility is not to convince others of our worth. Our responsibility is to live, love, walk, and thrive.

Michelle Obama has stood with us in that work for years. Today, we stand with her.

Have you ever wondered about how GirlTREK is bringing our Joy and Justice Agenda to life in the streets of our neighborhoods? GirlTREK and Black Women’s Health Imperative are teaming up for a powerful walking Teach-In to teach our members all about it.

We’re kicking off GirlTREK’s Advocacy Teach-In series with our sisters at at BWHI on Tuesday, June 23rd at 7 pm ET. We will be walking and talking about all things “We Want Healthy Bodies”, the first demand on our Joy and Justice Agenda and you are invited to lace up your sneakers and join us.

It’s all going down on GirlTREK’s YouTube account. Pop in your earbuds and lace up your sneakers as we walk and talk together. Expect a 30 minute virtual walking experience where you can walk live with GirlTREK’s Sr. Director of Advocacy & Partnerships, Hailey Darby, and Black Women’s Health Imperative Interim EVP of Programs & Advocacy, Zsanai Epps.

For Juneteenth week, we're spotlighting the CoCoEco Walking Crew in Charlotte, North Carolina—a crew using walking to help women connect with the stories, places, and history that shaped their community.

Their work is a reminder that some of the most powerful lessons about Black history happen right in our own neighborhoods.

Share your story and you could be featured in an upcoming Member or Crew Spotlight: https://www.girltrek.org/share-your-story/

And this week, we're sending love to the entire CoCoEco Walking Crew for helping keep Charlotte's stories alive—one walk at a time.

This week’s is for the cookout! Moms, aunties, line dancers and everybody arguing over which version of “Before I Let Go” is better.

Now listen… Maze will ALWAYS be the cookout classic but we gotta give Beyoncé credit because she took a song we already loved and added just a little extra bounce to it. Add this one to your walk today and don’t be surprised when your walk turns into a full cookout two step halfway through the block ☀️

Juneteenth is this Friday, so this week’s vibe is good food, good people, good music & being OUTSIDE with your community
