Rukundo International Rukundo Preparatory School is our Flagship program. RI helps orphans, financially distressed families, and at-risk youth.

Founded in January 2014, Rukundo International (RI) is a NGO and 501(c)3 committed to sustainably transforming lives in Kabale, Uganda through education and empowerment. Rukundo International (RI) works as a partner and advocate for Kyanamira, a small rural community in the Kabale District of Southwest Uganda. We focus primarily on women and children to help ensure the community will have the nece

ssary resources to reach their full potential. Rukundo Preparatory School is our flagship program providing primary education for over 100 children and working as a home base for our community center. Words cannot express how thankful and humbled we are to have your support. Uganda has the highest school drop-out rate of all East Africa. Our goal is to help change those statistics. We are committed to sustainably transforming lives and improving the community of Kabale. The name of our foundation, Rukundo, means love in Rukiga, the dialect spoken in Kabale, Uganda. 🇺🇬 Happy Heroes Day, Uganda! 🇺🇬

Today, we celebrate the people who make a difference through courage, sacrifice, and service to others.

At Rukundo International, we want to recognize a very special group of heroes: YOU.

Every person who purchased a chicken, shared a post, made a donation, sponsored a child, volunteered, or supported our programs in any way is a hero to the children and families we serve.

Because of your generosity, we are thrilled to announce that we have officially reached our goal of providing one chicken for each of our 255 students! 🐔🎉

A chicken may seem small, but it represents nutrition, income, opportunity, and hope. For many families, it is the beginning of something much bigger.

But we're not done yet.

Today, as we honor heroes, we're setting our sights on the next group of champions: the staff who make our programs possible every single day.

The teachers who stay late helping struggling learners.
The cooks who prepare thousands of meals.
The cleaners who create a safe environment.
The matrons who comfort children.
The office staff who keep everything running.

These are the everyday heroes behind every success story.

Our new goal is simple: 19 more chickens so every staff member gets one too.

In April 2024, Gracious A., a pupil at Rukundo Preparatory School, received a hen through Rukundo International.

At the time, it was just one hen.

That hen started laying eggs, and those eggs started showing up at the family table. Better nutrition meant a small but steady difference at home.

During school holidays, Gracious spent her mornings finding pastures and caring for her hen. She didn't have to be asked. She just did it. Something shifted. A girl who received a gift became a girl who takes ownership of what she's been given.

That's the thing about a chicken. It can teach a kid that what she cares for can care for her right back. 💛

This is the heart of Chicken Run: Uganda. A chance for more kids like Gracious to learn what it means to nurture something that grows. 🐔

Race day is Thursday. With less than 50 chickens to go.

We might make terrible chickens. But we’ll be one for a good cause. 🐔❤️
With Andrea’s Uganda trip postponed, we improvised our Chicken Run preview race with some very questionable substitute chickens: volunteers with absolutely no dignity.🤣
The puns and impressions are bad. But the cause is worth every feather.🪶

Allen's goat almost didn't make it. 🐐

In 2025, Allen received her first goat through Rukundo's livestock program. The first animal her family had ever owned. When it got seriously ill, she thought she'd lost it before it even had a chance.

But with the right care, the goat pulled through. And then it had a baby. ❤️

Allen now has two goats. Food, income, and a future she can build on.

Around here, we take our animals seriously. Goats, chickens... if it can feed a family and fund a future, we're all in. 🐐🐔

Wednesday chicken check-in!! 🐔

When we started Chicken Run: Uganda, 255 chickens felt like a big number. Right now we're at 189. That's real and that's all because of you. ❤️

Here's what $40 actually does:
A chicken gives a family a sustainable food source. Eggs feed their children and the extras are sold for income.
That income helps keep kids in school at Rukundo Prep.

One chicken creates a cycle of nutrition, income, and education for an entire family.

We still need 66 more before race day on June 11. Cross the finish line and a new classroom gets built too. 🧱
