Started the morning at a high school graduation (congrats Christian!), had a grad photoshoot, then went straight into glam for a fashion show modeling and .dresses! Sending hugs to and ❣️

One of the questions I get the most is, “What is Miss Diwali?”

Within both the Miss Maryland Opportunity and the Miss America Opportunity, many local titles are connected to a city, county, or region. But there are also fair and festival titles (like me!), which can be rooted in heritage events and traditions that mean something deeply personal to the people who celebrate them or the state itself.

For me, Miss Diwali carries a history that reaches far beyond the stage. Diwali pageants have been celebrated for decades, and both my mom and aunt competed in one when they were in primary school. To now continue that legacy here in Maryland feels incredibly meaningful.

It is one of my favorite things about Miss Maryland: each local title can represent something different, whether it is a hometown, a festival, history, or a community that helped shape you.

Happy 60th Independence Day, Guyana. 🇬🇾✨

As a Guyanese American, this day means so much to me. Guyana is a country with a powerful history and culture that carries beauty through its people, traditions, music, food, dance, and stories.

A few weeks ago, I was invited to spend the day at the Embassy of Guyana in Washington, D.C. for Passport DC, celebrating with the community and honoring a place that is such a meaningful part of who I am.

Through genealogy, I found the language to claim that part of myself. I can now proudly say that I am Guyanese American, and that is the confidence and pride every child deserves to feel, no matter where their story begins. 💚

That is the number of men and women who have lost their lives in defense of the United States since the founding of our nation.

Today, I attended the 59th Memorial Day Ceremony at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, a moving and dignified event that honored fallen service members who have worn the uniform and made the ultimate sacrifice, especially 16 fallen service members who were finally brought home to rest in Maryland.

The ceremony was a powerful reminder of the true meaning of Memorial Day and the cost of the freedoms we are privileged to have.

I was honored to meet members of the Maryland Nurse Honor Guard. Their presence was a beautiful reminder of sisterhood in service and the care that continues long after a life of service has ended.

May we always remember the names and sacrifices of those who gave their lives for our country.

At 515 Greene Street stands the Jane Gates Heritage House, a place filled with history, resilience, and generations of family legacy.

The Jane Gates Heritage House is a reminder of the strength it takes to build something lasting and the importance of carrying family history forward. It reflects the life of a woman whose perseverance created a foundation that continues to influence generations today.

What makes this effort so meaningful is the family behind it. John Gates, Sukh Gates, their children, and grandchildren are preserving more than a historic home. They are protecting Jane Gates’ story and ensuring her legacy continues to be seen and remembered.

This home is part of the family history that helped inspire Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr.’s passion for genealogy, but it also represents something broader. It shows what can happen when families reclaim their stories and preserve the places connected to them.

The Genealogy Club is honored to help shine a light on Jane Gates’ legacy and the continued preservation of this important piece of history. The Jane Gates Heritage House in Allegany County stands as a lasting reminder of the impact one family can have across generations, and we’re excited to continue sharing more stories and moments connected to this journey.
