On June 12, more than 150 students from MCPS high schools signed an open letter urging the district to retract a memo that they argue could lead to censorship of student publications.

Released March 19, the memo from MCPS Chief of Schools Dr. Peter Moran establishes a system of prior review, requiring all schools to designate an administrator to review student-written material before publication. The letter warns that extended prior review effectively becomes prior restraint, and cites legal concerns.
