We recognize that professionals in the early childhood field are asked to complete many surveys. This particular survey is open from October 1st-31st and will inform the Professional Development Delivery Plan Staff in your area and across the state.

Child Care Aware is also promoting the Market Rate Survey, open from October 3, 2026, to January 29, 2027. Every three years, the State of Minnesota is required to conduct a market rate survey and gather rate information from all child care programs. This is an opportunity to provide important information to families looking for child care and to inform the calculation of reimbursement rates for the Child Care Assistance Program.

Parallel play is more social than it looks.

Two toddlers may be side by side, each focused on their own toys, with barely a word between them. But a lot of learning can be happening. They’re watching, imitating, exploring, communicating. And getting more comfortable sharing space with other children.

For early childhood professionals, these everyday moments can offer a window into a child’s social, language, cognitive and motor development.

And an important reminder: stages of play aren’t rigid deadlines. Children may move between different types of play depending on the activity, setting and people around them.
