Please join us for another important event in Montevallo’s history: the dedication of the Montevallo African American Trail Marker for Prentice High School this Sunday, March 22nd at 2 pm at Montevallo Middle School.

If you attended Prentice High School or know anyone who did, please come! We will have a story sharing event afterwards (with refreshments!) at Shiloh Baptist Church. We would love to have you there!

A special thanks to for hosting “The Heart of Black Herstory” event this past Saturday! Kids and adults got to enjoy a day filled with coloring free books, and story reading! We also spent the day learning about famous black women in history such as Ruby Bridges, Claudette Colvin, Mae Jemison, and many more.

Let’s explore the colors commonly used to represent Black History Month! 🖤💚❤️💛 Each color has its own meaning and can be found in the Pan-African flag.

The theme of the centennial of Black History Month is “A Century of Black History Commemorations”. The theme is decided upon annually by The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), which was founded by Dr. Carter Godwin Woodson, George Cleveland Hall, William B. Hartgrove, Jesse E. Moorland, Alexander L. Jackson, and James E. Stamps in 1915.
