Politics - Talk Circle
Thursday, August 20, 2026
7-9pm PDT
In-person and live Zoom meeting, see below for info.

Once we give serious consideration to the hypothesis of the unconscious, it follows
that our view of the world can be but a provisional one; for if we effect so radical an
alteration in the subject of perception and cognition this dual focus implies, the
result must be a world view very different from any known before.
>>CG Jung CW8, para 370 / 423

Archetypal energy carries a much higher charge than personal energy—the
difference between a thunderbolt and a duckling’s quack…. As a culture, we are
presently stuck in the parental complexes. The power structures of patriarchy have
profoundly wounded both masculine and feminine, making mature relationships
almost impossible without hard psychic work.
>>Marion Woodman and Elinor Dickson, Dancing in the Flames: The Dark Goddess
in the Transformation of Consciousness, pp2/6

The immense processes of transformation like those taking place today, and the far and deep-reaching mutations that have been occurring for generations and extend
into the present…. are latent in origin; they are always back-leaps into the already
(ever-)present future.

The way is ineffable. One cannot, one must not, betray it. It is like the way of Zen—

end of honesty and patience. >>CG Jung p217

July 30: Our Experiences of Aging—talk circle
Thursday, July 30, 2026
7-9pm PDT
In-person and live Zoom meeting, see below for details.

The goal is important only as an idea; the essential thing is the opus which leads to the goal: that is the goal of a lifetime. CW16, par 400

To speak of the morning and spring, of the evening and the autumn of life is not mere sentimental jargon. We thus give expression to psychological truths, and even more to physiological facts. CW8

The afternoon of life is just as full of meaning as the morning; only, its meaning and purpose are different. CW7
Individuation does not shut one out from the world, but gathers the world to itself. CW8 par432

Keeping in mind such thoughts of Jung, tonight's talk-circle invites each of us (of any age) to share experiences of aging in our own lives and the lives of others.

Movie Night: In Search of the Self: A Path to Unity by Lucas Costanza
Thursday, July 23, 2026
7-9pm PDT
In-person and live Zoom meeting, see below for info.

We watched one of Lucas Costanza's other films about Jung several years ago. Join us for this one about Jung and Viktor Frankl.

In Search of the Self is a documentary that investigates how the ideas of Carl Jung
and Viktor Frankl can help us understand contemporary human beings. Through
interviews with psychologists, the film shows that their thoughts remain relevant
and necessary. In a world marked by identity crises and existential emptiness, In
Search of the Self proposes a clear and urgent reflection—a path where meaning and purpose meet. We will discuss the film after viewing.

Inhabiting Space: Memory and the Places We Live In
Thursday, July 2, 2026
7-9pm PDT
In-person and live zoom meeting, see below for info.

We often move through daily spaces—houses, hallways, rooms—without much thought. However, some places remain with us vividly, while others feel unsettlingly empty or resistant to memory. This event explores the idea that spaces are not neutral; they absorb traces of memory and reflect our presence back to us.

The evening will feature scenes from David Lowery’s A Ghost Story, Andrei Tarkovsky’s Stalker, and Kane Parsons’ The Backrooms to illustrate these themes. We will also reflect on McGowan House and how it has held traces of the many gatherings it has hosted over the years.

You are invited to join the conversation and share your own experiences of places that have stayed with you or felt difficult to understand.

Our Dream Lives, talk-circle
Thursday, June 25, 2026
7-9pm PDT
In-person and live Zoom meeting, see below for info.

Dreams are impartial, spontaneous products of the unconscious psyche, outside
control of the will. They are pure nature; they show us the unvarnished, natural
truth, and are therefore fitted, as nothing else is, to give us back an attitude that
accords with our basic human nature…. Dream symbols are the essential message
carriers…and their interpretation enriches the poverty of consciousness…

Projection and Re-Collection in Jungian Psychology: Reflections of the Soul
by Marie-Louise von Franz
Thursday, June 18, 2026
7-9pm PDT
In-person and live Zoom meeting, see below for info.

We will finish chapter 7 and dive into chapters 8 and 9, hopefully
finishing the book by the end of the trimester. Chapter 8 is on
“Consciousness and Inner Wholeness” and Chapter 9 on “Reflection.”
Where the earlier chapters often surveyed the use of projection in various
aspects of Life, these two tie things together and go deep. Dive in with us…

James Hillman - The Dream and the Underworld
Thursday, June 11, 2026
7-9pm PDT
In-person and live Zoom meeting, see below for info.

We continue our reading from page 61—with open discussion . . .

Images are somewhere. The fundamental language of all the underworld is that of
contained space. Look at the dream as if it were a theater program. Everything that
happens, happens there. For the underworld view, what matters is not how the story comes out, but where it is taking place, what region of the soul is now on stage, so that I may know “where I am at” in regard to my dream-soul. p188
