Today, we continue honoring some of the extraordinary leaders that have walked the halls of NPS, recognizing three graduates who literally reached for the stars, and succeeded.
Retired Navy Capt. Winston Scott graduated from NPS in 1980, and is a veteran of two Space Shuttle flights during his seven years with NASA. Scott has inspired countless young men and women as a passionate advocate of youth programs. Following his time with NASA, Scott’s exemplary leadership of the Florida Space Authority helped position the state’s space industry for the future by playing a key role in the creation of SpaceFlorida, strengthening the state’s position as a leader in aerospace.
Retired Navy Capt. Robert Curbeam is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, and holds both a master’s degree and an engineer’s degree from NPS. He is a veteran of three Space Shuttle missions over his 13 years with NASA, and still maintains the record for the most spacewalks (4) executed during a single . He has followed his successful NASA career as a leading executive in the aerospace industry, serving in senior leadership positions for Northrop Grumman Corporation, RTX and now Maxar Technologies.
Navy Capt. Victor Glover is a 2009 graduate of NPS’ systems engineering management program, and completed the space systems certificate program in 2005. Glover’s impressive career continues, most recently serving as the Pilot and second-in-command of the Crew-1 SpaceX Crew Dragon. Glover made history, becoming the first Black astronaut to live on the International Space Station (ISS), spending 168 days on the ISS in support of the Expedition 64 mission.
